Job Description Summary: Under supervision, provides background data support, analysis and recommendations for the rating, reserving and financial reporting policies of BCBSKC and its subsidiaries and provides systems and programming support across the Actuarial and Job_Family_ID_Underwriting Division for their automated and manual systems.   • Creates spreadsheets, analyzes and interprets data
  • Monitors and reports financial results and trends
  • Assists with or manages the actuarial responsibilities for small group renewals
  • Assists in studies, surveys and special requests
  • Studies for and passes actuarial examinations

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, or other relevant academic discipline; or any combination of education and experience providing the types and levels of knowledge, skills, and abilities required by the job.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Ability to deal with a nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs) in its most difficult phase.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • Intermediate skill using a computer keyboard.
  • Completion of at least one actuarial exam

Preferred Qualifications

  • Intermediate knowledge of and skill using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint preferred.
  • Beginning level knowledge of PC-based database systems such as SQL, SAS, Alteryx, Crystal, or Python, as well as report-tools such as Power BI
