Carolina Waste has immediateopening for a Lead Diesel Mechanic to join our GROWING team at our site inCharleston, SC.

As a key member of our technicians team, your work as a Lead Diesel Mechanic will focus on the overall maintenance of equipment and fleet used by our company. The Lead Diesel Mechanic plays a critical role providing leadership, guidance, and technical support to the 2nd shift technician team. This will also involve inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing electrical, hydraulic, and air systems on vehicles.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and oversee the 2nd shift technician team, providing daily direction, technical guidance, and mentorship
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for 2nd shift maintenance team, ensuring workflow efficiency and timely completion of repairs
  • Initiating or assigning repairs
  • Completing required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair
  • Reviewing, completing, or assigning repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports
  • Conducting safety checks on vehicles and equipment
  • Performing service calls for emergency breakdowns
  • Maintaining a clean, safe work environment in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 3 years of proven diesel mechanic experience, including diagnostic and repair work
  • Prior leadership, mentoring, or lead technician experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to work 2nd shift scheduled (noon start time)
  • Ability to adapt to a wide variety of environments to complete work assignments
  • Welding/fabrication experience, a major plus
  • Valid CDL or the ability to obtain one with 90 days.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, ability to stand most of the work day, ability to stoop, kneel, and bend, ability to reach into tight spaces, ability to climb and crawl, ability to reach and twist, ability to grasp and use hand tools with precision, ability to see/read/write work orders, gauges etc., ability to withstand exposure to loud noises.
