Inside the Role

Interns will gain knowledge and experience through exciting and real-life learning opportunities. Interns must work in accordance with DTNA's core values of passion, respect, integrity and discipline. Internship positions can be located at various DTNA locations across the US. We are looking for high performing and motivated individuals in various areas within DTNA organizations. DTNA internships begin each summer in May or June.

The Vehicle Aerodynamics & Molded Panels group at Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) is seeking a motivated Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering student entering their junior or senior year to join us for a summer internship. This intern will contribute directly to the development and integration of aerodynamic components for our Freightliner Cascadia product line.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll collaborate with experienced aerodynamicists, design engineers, and cross-functional team members. You'll learn how modern commercial vehicle aerodynamics are developed, validated, and integrated into production-intent designs.

Salary placement is determined by your anticipated graduation year and ranges between $21 - $29 per hour.

What You Drive at DTNA
  • Assist in the design, integration, and evaluation of aerodynamic components for the Cascadia Day Cab platform.
  • Build, refine, and organize CAD models and assemblies to support aerodynamic concepts and packaging studies.
  • Participate in design reviews and help translate aerodynamic concepts into manufacturable molded-panel solutions.
  • Develop documentation, test summaries, and engineering reports to communicate findings.
  • Manage assigned work packages independently, meeting agreed upon milestones and deadlines under the guidance of a mentor.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams such as Purchasing, Design Center, Product Validation Engineering, and Program Management.
  • Support general engineering tasks including data analysis, benchmarking, prototype part coordination, and issue tracking.
  • Lead and support efforts to foster an inclusive and welcoming workplace culture where everyone belongs

Knowledge You Should Bring

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program or higher with degree focus in Mechanical engineering or Aerospace engineering or related from an accredited college/university OR have recently graduated within 1 year of the position start date (May/June)
  • Junior or senior standing preferred
  • Strong interest in vehicle aerodynamics, exterior design, or automotive engineering
  • Fundamental proficiency in CAD software (NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, or similar).
  • Ability to manage time, follow engineering processes, and work toward deadlines with minimal oversight
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and within collaborative team environments
  • Willingness to learn, take initiative, and ask questions
  • Experience or coursework in aerodynamics, fluid mechanics, or thermal/CFD analysis preferred
  • Familiarity with NX (Siemens) CAD tools preferred
  • Prior internship or project experience involving mechanical design or vehicle systems preferred
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing methods for molded components (thermoplastics, composites, etc.) preferred
