SUMMARY OF POSITION The Health and Safety Coordinator will assist in managing and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations within our manufacturing and distribution facilities. This position will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining safety programs, conducting training sessions, and ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. {Bullet point main job tasks. Less Frequent, one-off tasks are covered by "other duties" above}
- Develop, implement, and monitor Health & Safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Provide training and education to leadership on health and safety procedures, emergency response, and environmental regulations.
- Participate in accident investigations, incidents, and near-misses, and ensure events are documented within the incident management system to include root cause(s) and corrective actions.
- Maintain and update safety performance metrics to track progress and identify areas for improvement.
- Stay current with changes in environmental, health, and safety regulations and advise senior Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Staff on their impact.
- Collaborate with all departments to promote our Safe to the Core values for Employee Health and Safety.
- Participates in regulatory evaluations of equipment and processes related to compliance activities
- Participates in EHS internal and 3rd party audits at manufacturing, distribution locations, and external audits of vendor facilities
- Develops and maintains effective record keeping programs in support of all EHS programs to include hard copy and electronic record keeping and managing databases and spreadsheets
- Assists with design and implementation of Emergency Preparedness programs to include Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure Plans, Slug Response Plans, Hazardous Waste Contingency Plans, and Emergency Response Plans, and performs environmental sampling as required by regulatory permits
- Supervises confined space entry projects and develops specific confined space procedures
- Works with outside vendors, contractors, and consultants as appropriate
- Supports hazardous material compliance activities, training programs, regulatory agency inspections, and with recycling efforts at all facilities

- Experience in supporting multiple locations of differing types; manufacturing, distribution, offices, Research & Development, etc.
- Must be able to read, understand, and follow regulatory requirements, including reading complex federal and/or state regulations and completing an evaluation of the requirements
- Must have the ability to read and comprehend blueprints, piping & instrumentation diagrams, basic descriptions used for energy control procedures/confined space procedures
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations and standards.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SharePoint, Visio, Learning Management Systems, and EHS Software solutions.
- Must be a self-starter and can push tasks through to completion with minimal supervision
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with specific experience in Health & Safety Compliance within a manufacturing environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, Natural or Physical Sciences or other curriculum relevant to EHS fields.
- Certification in Safety or related field with the ability to obtain licensure (GSP, ASP or CSP, SMP, OHST, etc.)
- Experience with AutoCAD or AutoCAD Light a plus
- Valid NC Driver's License
PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Spill prevention support activities require the ability to lift up to 50 pounds from the floor to shoulder level and to carry for short distances
- Must be able to walk and/or stand for long periods of time
- Wastewater and stormwater activities require the ability to carry coolers filled with ice and filled sample containers - approximate weight is 50 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
