Position Summary

Under the direction of the Vice President of Instruction, the Associate Vice President of Instruction (Economic and Workforce Development) will be responsible for providing administrative leadership in the planning, organization, and evaluation of selected instructional programs and services, particularly those focused on the delivery of career technical education, and coordinates the support, development, and promotion of the college's occupational/vocational programs.


Typical Duties

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:

LEADERSHIP/COORDINATION:

  • Providing leadership for the advancement, evaluation, and improvement of the college's economic and workforce development programs and services.
  • Representing the college on local, District, and state committees as assigned by the Vice President of Instruction or college President
  • Coordinating promotion/marketing/interpretation of college workforce programs and career services to the general public, business and industry, and advisory boards.
  • Serving as a college liaison to occupational administrative groups.
  • Coordinating the personnel selection process including developing and reviewing selection criteria, recruiting, screening, interviewing, and recommending within area of responsibility.
  • Assisting in coordinating instructional personnel policies and procedures of the college and District.

COLLABORATION/TEAM BUILDING:
  • Working with college and district personnel, business and industry, advisory groups, and other appropriate organizations to initiate, oversee, and grow career ladders and college career education programs.
  • Working with the Vice President of Instruction, deans, and faculty on incorporating equity and anti-racist efforts into all instructional services and partnering with Student Services and Administrative Services on equity-related work for the college community.
  • Working with faculty, staff, and administrators to incorporate career education programming into the college's overall Guided Pathways design.
  • Working with the Curriculum Committee to assist in technical review of curriculum submissions and with the Planning, Research, and Institutional Effectiveness Office on program review processes.
  • Collaborating with deans and Vice President of Instruction to create optimal course offerings for students.
  • Participating as a management team member in general activities related to personnel, support, facilities, and funding of instructional and career services programs.

PROJECT DOCUMENTATION/DELIVERABLES:
  • Assessing state and national trends in community college career education and advising executive leadership based on such trends.
  • Administering and monitoring programs and grants (including the college Carl D. Perkins Vocational Technical Economic Act program and Strong Workforce Program), filing reports, and ensuring adherence to regulations of federal, state, and grant agencies for the receipt and expenditure of funds.
  • Developing partnerships with external agencies including business and industry, high schools, and universities.
  • Providing administrative and technical support to the instructional services operations that may include responsibility for the college schedule, catalog, and related publications; curriculum; program approval; instructional facilities usage.
  • Using technology to organize, categorize, and coordinate instructional data and reports.

TRAINING/STAFF DEVELOPMENT AND SUPERVISION:
  • Supervising, evaluating, and supporting assigned division deans and assigned staff.
  • Providing relevant college personnel with guidance/training in workforce funding regulations, reporting, and budgeting as needed.
  • Providing administrative oversight of the college's Career Services Center and Work Experience program.
  • Providing clear, accurate, and timely information and guidelines to direct reports and others as appropriate.

Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Have a master's degree from an accredited institution completed by June 30, 2026.
  2. Have one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator's administrative assignment.
  3. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
