Responsibilities

Peraton is currently seeking to hire an experienced Data Scientist / Analyst to join and support the Operational, Planning, Implementation, and Assessment Services (OPIAS) program.

Location: full-time, on-site at MacDill AFB, Florida

Role & Purpose - You Will
    Work collaboratively with IO/MISO planners, social scientists, data engineers, intelligence analysts, and cultural advisors to translate empirical research into operational assessments and briefings focused on the Middle East.
  • Support analysis and assessment activities, including data visualization (e.g., histograms, trend graphs) and technical inputs for analytic dashboard development, potentially in coordination with Peraton Labs.
  • Integrate customer requirements for crossdomain data solutions with Peraton's technical team.
  • Partner with military planners to break down, interpret, and synthesize data in ways that directly inform plans and operations.
Responsibilities:
  • Analyze structured and semistructured data sets, including opinion research, socialmediaderived big data, and secondarysource indices.
  • Support assessment and visualization of activities in the information environment by combining opinion research, intelligence, operational reporting, and social media insights.
  • Brief senior military leadership on commissioned research findings, trends, and online data analysis.
  • Provide data visualization and quantitative analysis; manage and optimize existing databases and dashboards; and incorporate primarysource quantitative and qualitative research.
  • Use online analytic toolkits to conduct socialmediarelated data collection and scrapes.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree linked to data analytics (e.g., math, physics, computer science) OR problem set analysis (e.g., international relations, political science, cultural anthropology, communication studies, etc.) and a minimum of 8 years' experience with BS/BA; 6 years with MS/MA; 3 years with PhD.
  • Demonstrated experience applying social media-oriented data analytic tool kits towards the evaluations of problem sets in the information environment.
  • Familiarity with major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) is essential.
  • Proficiency in programming languages like Python and R.
  • Experience with BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • Experience with cloud-based data integration.
  • Experience with building briefs summarizing data and research findings in MS PowerPoint.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Current U.S. passport.
  • Current DoD TS/SCI security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree (MS, PhD, etc.) linked to data analytics (e.g., math, physics, computer science) or problem set analysis (e.g., international relations, political science, cultural anthropology, communication studies, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience in briefing senior military leadership (O-5 and above).
  • Experience with libraries such as Pandas and NumPy for data manipulation and SciPy for scientific computing.
  • Experience with machine learning frameworks like scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch might be beneficial depending on further responsibilities.
  • Familiarity with version control and DevOp tools such as Git.
  • Demonstrated experience applying data analytic tools towards addressing national security issues.
  • Familiarity with containerization (using Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) to support cross-domain and scalable solutions.
  • Joint intelligence or operational experience with U.S. Geographical Combatant Commands.
  • Prior experience working Middle East-based problem sets.
  • Experience with campaign / operational assessments.
  • OSINT experience for interpreting the relevance of online trends, themes, narratives, and adversary behaviors in the information environment.
  • Experience utilizing C2IE (Command and Control of the Information Environment) to record assessment-related data on operations in the information environment (OIE).
  • Statistical package expertise in IBM SPSS/PASW, R, STATA or MS Excel statistics.

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
