Overview

The Luau Show Line Captain will work in conjunction and assist the Luau Show Stage Manager and Luau Show Dancers with all the daily operations of the Luau Show. An integral part of their responsibility is maintaining the performance standards as directed by the Luau Artistic Director to maintain the quality of the Luau show. The Luau Show Line Captain will also perform as a Luau Show Dancer providing professional authentic Hawaiian/Polynesian songs, dances or skits, performances before, during and after the show. Provides excellent guest experience.



Responsibilities

These duties include but are not limited to the following:

    Must attend and participate in all scheduled rehearsals and training for the Luau Show as required.
  • Must attend all pre-shift and post shift meetings.
  • Must perform and/or assign all pre-shift and post shift duties including but not limited to cleaning the dressing room and backstage areas before and after the show.
  • Responsible for ensuring the daily preparations for the Luau Show are in order, i.e., costumes and equipment.
  • Must assign the daily performance schedule (line up) to the cast members prior to the start of each show.
  • Responsible to ensure each performer is dressed in accordance to the standards of each number of the show.
  • Must assist the Luau Show Stage Manager and the Luau Artistic Director to maintain the quality of the choreography for each performance.
  • Responsible to take nightly show notes in absence of the Luau Show Stage Manager and report any discrepancies in the Luau Show production to the Luau Show Stage Manager to take action for immediate and future improvements.
  • Responsible to ensure all equipment/instruments, costumes, and supplies are kept in good condition.
  • Responsible to train all new hires the existing choreography and provide ongoing training for existing dancers.
  • Must perform the lei greeting and picture taking with guests.
  • Participates with the Imu ceremony as needed.
  • Performs the torch lighting ceremony when in operation.
  • Performs the pre-show.
  • Responsible to learn and perform all the dance numbers and songs of the show.
  • Responsible for assisting the other dancers to learn and perform all the dance numbers and songs of the show.
  • Responsible for making your own accessories and adornments using the fresh greens including but not limited to:
    • Ti leaf skirts, leggings, neck
    • Kupe'e
    • Tahitian hip and hei
    • Other items as required.
  • Responsible for caring and maintaining the costumes for each dance number, including accessories.
  • Responsible to assist the immediate supervisor to gather the costumes for weekly washing.
  • Responsible for supplying and maintaining your own personal items needed for all performances of the show, including but not limited to:
    • Hair spray, water bottle spray.
    • Brush, horse brush, comb.
    • Rubber bands for hair (must be same color as hair)
    • Black biker shorts
    • Black bikini-style underwear
    • Other items as directed by supervisor/manager.
  • Must ensure compliance with all local and liquor laws and health and sanitation regulations.
  • Must be in compliance with Hotel policies, rules and regulations.
  • Must attend and participate in all departmental and company meetings/training as required.
  • Must provide an excellent guest experience for overall guest satisfaction
  • Must perform other duties as directed/assigned by supervisor/management.


Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • At least 2-3 years supervisory experience or equivalent preferred.
  • At least 2-3-year professional Hawaiian/Polynesian dancing experience or equivalent, required.
  • Previous guest service experience required.
  • Proven knowledge of Hawaiian/Polynesian culture, songs, and dances, required.

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, twist, reach, bend, and stoop frequently.
  • Frequent repetitive hand, wrist and body motions.
  • Occasionally using the stairs
  • Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Essential Job Requirements:
  • Proven experience as a supervisor or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in a show production role or equivalent.
  • Must be able to work in conjunction with the Luau Show Stage Manager, F&B Luau Manager/Supervisor and Luau Staff as directed by the Luau Artistic Director.
  • Must be able to interact with fellow co-workers, managers/supervisors, guests and others with respect and honesty.
  • Must be able to work cohesively with fellow co-workers and managers/supervisors as part of a team.
  • Must attend all scheduled rehearsals, training, and hotel required meetings.
  • Must be able to lead, coach, and train in a positive and constructive manner.
  • Must be able to read and write in the English language.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all levels of management, employees, guests and others in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service oriented manner.

  • Must have basic knowledge of the use of computer programs including Word and Excel.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to perform job functions with accuracy.
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize duties and functions according to the Luau Show's needs to meet deadlines.
  • Must be available to work any and all shifts including but not limited to evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be available for flexible scheduling to meet the needs of the Luau Show.
  • Must be flexible and able to adjust to position changes nightly according to the needs of the Luau Show.
  • Must comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Must comply with all departmental and company policies.
  • Must be able to maintain confidential information.
  • Must perform other duties as directed/assigned by managers/supervisors.
