The Opportunity

Adobe's Legal and Government Relations (LGR) team partners with business and functional teams to manage the company's legal and government affairs. Sub-teams within the organization include Policy, Compliance, Anti-piracy, Corporate Securities and M&A, Litigation, Intellectual Property, Privacy, Trademarks & Marketing, Employment, Real Estate, Security, Operations and Product and Sales support. Adobe's LGR embraces groundbreaking approaches and best practices to align with Adobe's business needs.

Against this backdrop, Adobe is seeking a Chief Privacy Officer to lead and provide vision for all aspects of its global privacy strategy and approach to business execution. Overseeing the company's global privacy program, the Chief Privacy Officer will work with a broad audience to include senior executives, technologists and business leaders. This leader will manage a complex set of global privacy requirements and expectations. This person will lead a team dedicated to supporting Adobe's rapidly changing business needs, ensuring compliance with evolving privacy, security and consumer protection laws and industry standards, and appropriately managing legal and brand risk for the company.

Reporting to Adobe's Chief Legal Officer, the Chief Privacy Officer will be a lawyer with strategic and operational privacy expertise. The successful candidate will be able to identify gaps in legacy programs and build new processes to enhance and advance the function. The Chief Privacy Officer will be able to "speak the language" to inform and influence product and engineering teams. They will establish themselves as a proactive privacy leader with a vision, impacting global industry standard methodologies and rules and regulations with key external partners. They should have the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, including the Executive team, Board of Directors, and Shareholders. This person should also have proven success in working cross functionally; and should be a strong communicator with a sharp focus on managing risk with a healthy risk appetite balance

What You'll Do

  • Building trust in Adobe by overseeing the company's global privacy strategy and policies. Leading and developing best-in-class programs, trainings and processes to address privacy issues relating to legacy and new technologies and services and ensuring operational compliance with global privacy and data security laws and regulations.

  • Continuously developing and improving all aspects of Adobe's privacy compliance program. Serving as a privacy evangelist inside Adobe to advance a culture of privacy.

  • Driving impactful business solutions. Influencing the development of privacy and data protection-centric features of Adobe's technologies and services. Developing and scaling Privacy-By-Design strategies.

  • Further developing integrated strategies across Adobe to optimize new data use and innovations for customer benefit.

  • Creating and implementing customer-focused strategies, products and experiences to enable effective and responsible data use. Engaging with Adobe engineers and law enforcement agencies for hosted service offerings.

  • Guiding Product, Engineering, Data Science and Innovation teams on proposed or potential data use/product features. Clearly communicating with non-experts to help them understand applicable regulations, requirements and standard methodologies.

  • Influencing and partnering with cross-functional teams to provide transparency and control over personal information of customers and consumers.

  • Leading privacy due diligence on inorganic growth opportunities.

  • Representing Adobe externally before data protection regulators, industry groups and other key partners to drive balanced, scalable and global approaches to complex data privacy protection and needs. Overseeing communication and engagement with all external audiences regarding privacy.

  • Partnering with industry leaders to drive customer-focused programs and policies. Participating in industry forums to help craft relevant privacy, data and digital advertising policies, regulations and standard methodologies.

  • Leading a team to provide privacy counseling and support services to Adobe's business units and corporate functions. Developing and mentoring talent to be passionate about global privacy and data protection issues.

What Makes You Successful

  • A JD from a leading law school/university, and at least 15 years of relevant privacy experience, including time in-house. Ideally, over 5 of experience in SaaS/internet/consumer spaces and some grounding at a top-tier law firm. Some of the time must have been spent in a Fortune 250 Company, or large scale technology company.

  • Deep technical competence with the ability to understand and analyze the breadth of Adobe's products and offerings, including privacy and data security-related features and functionalities. Experience with product counseling preferred.

  • Global privacy expertise with specific knowledge of privacy regulations and industry standards in all major markets/jurisdictions.

  • Superior relationship management skills with the ability to develop partnerships and relationships throughout the organization as well as with key external collaborators. A proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with other functional leaders and the business.

  • Strong communication (oral and written) skills with the ability to influence and persuade, effectively interfacing at all levels of an organization.

  • A strategic problem-solver with excellent legal and business judgement. Impeccable integrity and ethical behavior with a strong moral compass and a commitment to transparency.

  • A creative, innovative and commercial mindset with a positive attitude. Substantial experience working collaboratively and effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • The strong ability to prioritize and focus on critical initiatives for LGR and the company; strives for operational excellence and holds teams accountable.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The U.S. pay range for this positionis $221,900 -- $507,450 annually. Paywithin this range varies by work locationand may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills,and experience. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the job location during the hiring process.
In California, the pay range for this position is $326,400 - $507,450

At Adobe, for sales roles starting salaries are expressed as total target compensation (TTC = base + commission), and short-term incentives are in the form of sales commission plans. Non-sales roles starting salaries are expressed as base salary and short-term incentives are in the form of the Annual Incentive Plan (AIP).

In addition, certain roles may be eligible for long-term incentives in the form of a new hire equity award.
