Summary

TheMeter Technical Specialist Seniorwill act as a meter network expert, plan and supervise network design, network device installations, and network performance monitoring / optimization. This role will prepare and configure network devices follow security and industry best practice, including firmware levels. This meter network expert assists in conversion of communication protocols as required.



The day to day for this role will include:




  • Technical leadership on meter network design, coordination
  • Network deployment planning
  • Connectivity and performance management and optimization
  • Plan and supervise network installation
  • Network issue resolution coordination
  • Network inventory planning and coordination
  • Network upgrade / firmware planning, coordination, and execution
  • May perform facility inspections in accordance with APS Standards
  • Mentors other Meter Technical Specialists for progression into SR role



(Note: Some job duties include field activities that are performed outdoors at various project sites.)

Minimum Requirements



    • High school diploma/GED and minimum five (5) years related work experience, of which at least two (2) years' experience must be in the Meter Technical Specialist





Preferred knowledge, skills, or qualifications:






    • Two (2) years as a Journeyman Electric Polyphase. Thisposition may require experience with rubber glove (RG) practices.
    • Demonstrated high level of competence in peer leadership, decision making and planning/organizational skills.
    • Must possess good communications and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency in computer skills, electronic theory, scientific math, circuit analysis, ESRM and NEC.
    • Thorough knowledge of company safety rules and practices, and of the labor agreement, APS Construction Standards, Accident Prevention Manual and OSHA standards.



Major Accountabilities

1) Responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of weekly and daily work plans and schedules on a real-time basis for Meter Operations. Monitors crew shifts, work orders/assignments and actual work while mobile workforce management crews are in the field and adjusts schedules and assignments as needed.



2) Manages Projects as assigned, serving as point of contact and project manager.



3) Work directly with customer service, contractors, and customers for coordination of work order process on new installations, upgrades, conversions, and electrical service relocations. Supports activities of other departmental teams and external customers to ensure overall team success.



4) Performs review of technical metering submittals for interconnection, Primary voltage metering, High Rise Network Metering.



5) Develop and present resolution recommendations for system design/application problems, propose new equipment evaluations, system performance measurements, and routine maintenance procedures.



6) Perform inspections per specification requirements or oversee the activities to ensure all inspections and repairs are completed thoroughly and on schedule. Maintain department documents.



7) Coordinates with vendors for next generation technologies for use and implementation at APS



8) Provide technical leadership in the direction and training of Polyphase Meterman in handling of more complex job and equipment.



9) Maintain and update the Electric Service Requirements Manual and provide training accordingly.Approves drawings on service Entrance Sections, and may serve as a representative for the Metershop on the ESRM committee and EUSERC.



10) Mentors other Meter Technical Specialists in coordination of daily work for the department.



11) Evaluates policies, processes, and procedures, developing and initiating actions to improve or make corrections as needed.



12) Coordinates with training department for apprentice scheduling and apprentice training content



13) Serves as the Designated Safety Observer on large scale projects to ensure safe execution of work practices on project. Which may include after hours and call out duties.



14) Promote safety awareness and accident reductions through safety meetings, tailboards and implementation of safe work procedures and practices.

Hybrid: Employees in hybrid roles work both in their home offices (virtually) and alongside their colleagues (in person).

In order for employees to build strong relationships and to promote meaningful in-person interactions, hybrid employees are expected to work about 40% of their time in-person at an APS or other (non-home office) location.



  • Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).
  • Working from a home office requires adequate technology and an appropriate ergonomic set up.
  • Role types are subject to change based on business need.
