Job Description

Title:

Senior Art Director

The Team:

Studio at People Inc. is the creative engine powering branded content for some of the world's most iconic brands. We produce at the intersection of editorial credibility, cultural fluency, and creative innovation. The production team is the backbone of this operation, turning bold creative into polished, authentic work that delivers impact for clients and audiences.

The Position:
We're looking for a design-driven Senior Art Director to join our award-winning custom content studio. Working alongside the Creative Director and Associate Creative Director, this role will be a key creative partner responsible for shaping and executing visually stunning, conceptually rich campaigns across digital, print, video, and experiential platforms. The ideal candidate is a hands-on design expert who can translate strategy and storytelling into refined, cohesive visual systems.

This person thrives on craft-elevating every detail of typography, layout, and imagery-while collaborating seamlessly with cross-functional teams to bring ideas to life at the highest creative standard. This is an opportunity to help define the look and feel of Studio at People Inc.'s lifestyle portfolio through art directing on set (which will often require traveling for shoots) and pushing design innovation across all formats while ensuring every piece of content aligns with People Inc. brand voices and client goals.

In-office Expectations: This position is a hybrid 3x days a week in our NY office with the ability to work remotely up to 2 days each week.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Art Direction

  • Lead the visual design execution for custom content campaigns, ensuring every deliverable meets world-class standards of client and brand alignment.

  • Develop and refine campaign identities, visual systems, and content toolkits across multiple platforms.

  • Partner closely with the CD and ACD to translate strategic and conceptual directions into polished, scalable design executions.

  • Art direct on set and design across a range of formats-social, digital, video graphics, print, motion, and experiential.

  • Create and present visual concepts, pre-production decks, mood boards, layouts, and prototypes that communicate storytelling intent with clarity and impact.

  • Collaborate with photographers, directors, shoot crews, illustrators, stylists, motion designers, editors, etc. to maintain a cohesive visual narrative from pre-production through post.

Collaboration & Creative Development

  • Work in lockstep with the ACD, Associate AD, Designers, Copy Leads, and Producers to ensure all creative work reflects both aesthetic and strategic excellence.

  • Provide thoughtful visual solutions to client challenges-balancing bold creative vision with business objectives.

  • Participate in creative reviews, contributing strong visual and conceptual feedback to elevate collective output.

  • Partner with production and design operations to ensure efficient workflows, organized files, and consistent delivery across multiple concurrent projects.

Design Systems & Innovation

  • Develop flexible visual systems and templates that ensure cohesion and scalability across campaign assets.

  • Stay ahead of design, social, functionality, and technology trends-bringing fresh ideas and new techniques to the table.

  • Push creative boundaries within brand parameters, exploring new approaches to storytelling through design, motion, and layout.

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Mentor Designers by providing feedback and fostering professional growth.

  • Contribute to a creative culture that values curiosity, experimentation, and high standards of craft.

  • Serve as a visual guardian for the studio's lifestyle brands, ensuring every deliverable embodies the brand's aesthetic integrity and emotional resonance.

Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements:

Education: B.A. or BFA in Design, Advertising or Communication Design or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.

Experience:

  • 6+ years of professional design and art direction experience in a creative agency, content studio, or media environment.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, Certifications, and Abilities:

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in visual storytelling, design systems, and multi-platform campaign work-particularly in lifestyle categories (home, food, travel, tech, etc.).

  • Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) and Figma; motion or animation experience a plus.

  • Proven ability to execute both hands-on design and high-level art direction on set.

  • Deep understanding of typography, color, layout, and digital design principles.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, and able to clearly articulate design rationale to both creative peers and clients.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.
