The Senior Business Systems Analyst will play a critical role in supporting the Assistant Dean and the Senior Director for Data Analytics and Business Intelligence in advancing data-informed decision-making across the School of Medicine (SOM).

This position is responsible for translating business needs into technical solutions, developing and maintaining dashboards and reports, and ensuring the integrity and usability of data across clinical, research, and administrative domains.

The analyst will collaborate with stakeholders across SOM Finance, Administration, IT, and academic units to deliver scalable analytics solutions and promote data governance and literacy.

Work Arrangement - Hybrid

Anticipated Pay Range - Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $68,970.00 to USD $127,008.00. Duke University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position; candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills; internal peer equity; as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES




  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience working in academic medicine or healthcare preferred.
  • Familiarity with Duke-specific systems and data platforms (e.g., SAP, BW, SPS, WebCentral/Archibus).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with data governance frameworks and data architecture.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education - Bachelor's degree in business analytics, information systems, public health, or related technical field.

Experience - 5+ years of experience in business systems analysis, data analytics, or business intelligence.

Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).

Working knowledge of SQL and experience with other querying languages (e.g., SAS, Python, R).

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities (35%)

Business Analysis & Requirements Gathering




  • Partner with stakeholders to understand business processes, data needs, and reporting requirements.
  • Query and analyze complex datasets and guide information discovery to support strategic and operational decision-making.
  • Translate business needs into functional specifications and technical requirements for analytics solutions, ensure successful delivery of dashboards and information tools.
  • Document workflows, data definitions, and system interactions to support analytics development and governance.



Data Analytics & Visualization (35%)




  • Design and maintain dashboards, reports, and visualizations using tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
  • Analyze data from multiple sources to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights.
  • Ensure consistency, accuracy, and version control of all reporting outputs.



Systems Integration & Support (15%)




  • Collaborate with IT and data teams to integrate data across research, clinical, and administrative systems.
  • Support the development and maintenance of data pipelines, warehouses, marts and lakes.
  • Test and validate data solutions to ensure performance, scalability, and security.
  • Ensure systems and data structures support both strategic planning and daily operational reporting.



Governance & Stewardship (5%)




  • Support the implementation of data governance policies and procedures.
  • Promote data quality, integrity, and compliance with institutional standards.
  • Build consensus on shared data elements and reporting needs across departments.
  • Assist in training and outreach efforts to enhance data literacy and responsible data use.



Project Management & Collaboration (5%)




  • Manage timelines and deliverables for assigned analytics projects.
  • Work closely with the Director and Senior Director to support strategic initiatives and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Provide support to the Sr Director and Director for Data Analytics & BI as needed and required by the assignment of new responsibilities to the Data Analytics team.



Strategic Advisory & Outreach (5%)




  • Advise users and administrators on optimal use of systems and data tools.
  • Assist in training and outreach efforts to enhance data literacy and responsible data use.
  • Represent the analytics team in meetings and working groups as needed.
