Job Summary
The University of Texas at Dallas University Unions Director serves as one of the leaders of a multi-layered, dynamic department. Reporting to the Senior Director of University Unions, the Director serves as a strategic partner, steward of significant departmental funds, leader of several professional and student staff members/areas, and is responsible for representing the department's mission, vision, and values to the entire university community.
Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related progressive experience.

Preferred Education and Experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in public affairs, higher education administration, college student personnel, or other relevant academic concentrations
7+ years of professional experience in a higher education environment
3+ years of directly supervising professional staff members
3+ years of experience with budget creation and implementation
5+ years of experience managing operations of multiple large facilities in a college environment
Other Qualifications
To the extent this position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Section 117.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the critical infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired and to continue to be employed in the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises the following areas: Guest Services & Event Operations, Facilities Maintenance, and the Assistant Director of Student Union Programs
  • Develops and implements departmental vision, goals, and priorities with the Senior Director of University Unions
  • Provides guidance to Sr. Director of University Unions based on department feedback, data analytics, and observations
  • Provides high-level oversight of departmental assessment plans
  • Serves as the main developer of department policies
  • Handles day-to-day operational oversight of University Unions facilities totaling approximately 644,000 sq. Ft.
  • Works in collaboration with University Unions facilities and other external vendors on large-scale facilities projects
  • Responsible for the creation, organization, and stewardship of budgets across multiple cost centers totaling over $3 million dollars in M&O expenses
  • Serves as a strategic advisor on matters surrounding revenue generation and initiatives related to spending revenue dollars
  • Ensures compliance with university and departmental policies
  • Serves as the point of contact for the escalation of complaints
  • Responsible for the dissemination of relevant information to the Senior Director and vice versa
  • Assists the Senior Director with the creation of multiple formative and summative reports
  • Responsible for customer service initiatives & client feedback strategy
  • Assists in the development and implementation of university-wide events that are held in University Unions spaces
  • Provides high-level oversight of the Student Union Student Employee Development Program (STELLAR) which includes recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, and appreciation efforts
  • Acts as a secondary delegate of the Sr. Director in the implementation and enforcement of free speech and expression policies
  • Serves on the Homefest Core Planning Team, Commencement After-Party Planning Team, Weeks of Welcome Planning Team, and other university-wide planning teams
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, a successful employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, move or lift objects which may range from 10-25 lbs, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch frequently. A successful employee would also need to have good vision, manual dexterity, and coordination. They may also need to be able to hear and talk frequently.

Standard working hours for this position will be 8am-5pm Monday - Friday with occasional night and weekend obligations.

Remote Work Notice:
After the probationary period, this role may be eligible for a hybrid (partly remote/mostly in office) work schedule, subject to business need and manager approval. Must be located within the DFW Area and have the ability to be on campus with 24 hours of notice. A UT Dallas Remote Work Agreement will be required within 14 days after approval.
