FTE: 0.9, Shift: Night, Schedule: 12 hour shifts, Rotating weekends

Position Summary

The Mental Health Associate is responsible for providing a safe, supportive and therapeutic environment while providing direct observation for an assigned patient experiencing confusion, suicidal ideation, or other psychiatric condition requiring close supervision. This position works in conjunction with the Registered Nurse assigned to the patient. Work situations are confined to patient's rooms or immediate area and require alertness, constant attention to the patient, and skill in reacting appropriately to changing situations and circumstances.

Responsibilities

  • Observes assigned patient, maintaining a direct line of vision to the patient at all times and communicates unusual occurrences immediately to the nurse responsible for the patient
  • Assists with maintaining a safe and hazard free environment by observing and documenting patient behavior, conducting patient room searches, reporting unsafe conditions, implementing safety interventions and applying appropriate emotional support.
  • Orients the patient and patient's family to the facility and the policies and procedures Documents patient care activities
  • Provides appropriate interventions immediately if the patient is attempting to participate in an unsafe activity e.g. climbing out of bed, attempting to ambulate without assistance, pulling at lines or tubes, displaying aggressive behavior; and seeks assistance as necessary
  • Changes bed linens, tidies room and empties trash as needed.
  • Interacts with assigned patient and provides diversion activities, such as reading, playing games, cards, watching television, and conversation.
  • Completes required documentation in accordance with department and regulatory standards

    Requirements

    • High School Diploma
    • Current BLS Certification
    • Previous patient care experience preferred
    • Successful completion of constant observer class required within 90 days of employment

    Pay and Benefit Expectations

    We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $17.86 - $26.55 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant's years of experience align.
