Job Summary Worthington Enterprises is seeking a Cold Header Machinist / Operator to join our night shift team in Maize, Kansas. This position supports the Main Valve Housing department by setting up, operating, and maintaining cold heading and related machining equipment to meet production schedules, quality requirements, and customer expectations with minimal downtime. The ideal candidate will demonstrate very strong mechanical aptitude, high attention to detail, and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Primary Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on cold headers/cold formers and multi-spindle screw machines
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to machine parts to specification while maintaining required tolerances
- Perform in-process inspections to ensure efficient and accurate production prior to approval
- Inspect finished product to verify conformance with quality standards and specifications
- Utilize precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances
- Work independently and take ownership of assigned equipment and tasks
- Identify and communicate opportunities for process improvement
- Follow all plant safety rules, policies, and procedures, including Lockout/Tagout
- Perform all duties in a safe manner and in accordance with company policies and procedures
- Participate in Lean Manufacturing and transformation initiatives, including safety initiatives
- Assist team members as needed to support production goals
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Complete required documentation accurately and in a timely manner
- Perform other duties as assigned by lead, supervisor, or manager
Qualifications
- Solid knowledge of cold heading/forming or machining with strong mechanical aptitude
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
- Ability to sustain a steady work pace throughout a 12-hour shift
- Strong basic math skills, including metric and English measurement conversions
- Customer-focused mindset with a sense of urgency
- Demonstrated commitment to personal integrity and product/process integrity
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders
- Advanced knowledge of machine repair
- Ability to read and write relay/ladder logic
- Proficiency using precision measuring tools, including micrometers, dial calipers, height gages, depth gages, dial indicators, and shop gages
- Ability to maintain engineering and manufacturing tolerances and finishes
- Strong in-process inspection skills
- Knowledge of manufacturing safety protocols
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective working relationships
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or more
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive motions throughout the shift
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that is not climate controlled, with exposure to varying temperatures
Shift: Night Shift Schedule
- 12-hour shifts
- Night Shift: 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM
- Training will be conducted on Day Shift: 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM
