About the SDET II Opportunity

As a Software Engineer in Test, you aren't just "testing infrastructure"-you are our first line of defense. You will own the quality and resilience of our Global Edge, ensuring that our 99.99% uptime is unshakeable as traffic hits our edge services. If you want to build the systems that protect millions of users before their requests even hit our core servers, this is your stage. Please note this is an operations focused role.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Edge Guardian: Drive end-to-end validation of our global traffic entry points
  • Resilience at Scale: Partner with Technical Operations to simulate regional failovers and "black hole" scenarios across our ALB/NLB and routing tiers.
  • Engineering Over Toil: We wage war against manual testing. You'll design sophisticated automation that validates infrastructure changes before they reach production.
  • Global Influence: Support quality initiatives across a distributed team (SF, Bangalore, Sydney & London), acting as the SME for "Edge Readiness."


What you'll do:



  • Provide on-call support (non customer facing) for our high availability SaaS platform
  • Provide assurance for infrastructure changes going into production by reviewing process and determining impact on production
  • Review infrastructure requirements and design relative test plans and test cases
  • Develop automation plans and write test code to execute the plan
  • Work withengineeringmanagement to scope and planengineeringefforts
  • Work closely with the team to evangelize optimal quality practices
  • Participate in the design and implementation of reliable cloud components
  • Enhance and maintain existing test automation and CM frameworks
  • Continuously review and optimize test coverage
  • Interface with Development, Architects and Technical Operations
  • Clearly communicate and document QE plans for scrum teams to review and comment
  • Types of testing we carry out includes and not limited to: Configuration; Component; Integration; DR; Functional; Chaos & Performance
  • Strong problem solving, troubleshooting, and analytic skills in a multi-tier SaaS environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication


What you'll bring:



  • Quality Engineer experience preferably in an enterprise SaaS company and/or working closely with technical operations teams
  • Technically sound candidates who may be looking to transition into Quality Engineering will also be considered
  • Minimum work experience of 2-4 Years
  • On-call is mandatory so any experience is a big plus
  • Experience with Network Security and Routing is a plus
  • Experience in testing, monitoring of distributed, highly available cloud services
  • Experience in building test automation framework from scratch
  • Experience in at least one OO language and shell scripting
  • Experience in CM tools, namely; Ansible or Chef
  • Administration of complex custom applications on UNIX/Linux and Enterprise Java Platforms
  • Experience with some of the following technologies and services:



Education and Training:
B.S. or M.S. in Comp Sci, Comp Engineering, Software Engineering or a closely related technical field
2 - 5 years of experience as a quality engineer or software engineer

  • This position requires the ability to access federal environments and/or have access to protected federal data. Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in California (excluding San Francisco Bay Area), Colorado, Illinois, New York and Washington. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in California (excluding San Francisco Bay Area), Colorado, Illinois, New York, and Washington is between:
$120,000 $180,000 USD
