Job Summary
The Entry-Level Data Center Technician role is ideal for candidates with mechanical, construction, or hands-on trade backgrounds who are looking to begin a career in data center infrastructure. This contract-to-hire position supports the installation, maintenance, and organization of structured cabling and equipment within critical data center environments. The role offers hands-on training, mentorship, and a clear pathway for career growth in the telecom and low-voltage industry. Technicians will support large-scale infrastructure projects involving fiber and copper cabling, equipment installation, and cable management while maintaining strict safety and quality standards. A strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and flexibility with work hours are essential. Job Responsibilities
Assist with cable infrastructure installations, including copper and fiber rough-in work.
Perform cable management tasks, including dressing, securing, and labeling cabling.
Terminate copper and fiber cabling in accordance with industry standards and specifications.
Rack, stack, and secure equipment; assist with building out server racks.
Complete rack elevations and follow equipment layout plans.
Install fiber trays, ladder racks, cabinets, and related infrastructure components.
Support infrastructure installations such as cable management systems, power trays, and ladder racks.
Receive materials and assemble hardware required for installations.
Assist with Outside Plant (OSP) activities, including routing fiber into data center environments.
Read, interpret, and follow blueprints, drawings, and installation documentation.
Communicate professionally with team members and supervisors using clear verbal and written communication.
Follow all safety guidelines, including proper use of PPE, maintaining a clean jobsite, and complying with OSHA standards.
Job Requirements
High School Diploma or GED equivalency.
Entry-level candidates encouraged to apply, especially those with mechanical, construction, or skilled trade backgrounds.
0-2 years of experience in a data center, construction, telecom, or related hands-on environment preferred but not required.
Prior exposure to construction, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, or similar trades preferred.
OSHA 10 certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
Ability to work extended hours, including overtime, weekends, and 12-hour shifts.
Strong work ethic and demonstrated willingness to learn new technical skills.
Physical ability to work on ladders and scissor lifts, operate in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds, move up to 75 pounds, and remain on feet for the duration of the shift.
