POSITION OVERVIEW:
Provide legal counsel and advice to the company and its subsidiary to ensure optimal business outcomes in accordance with federal, state and local employment laws.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide legal advice and guidance to FedEx Freight business partners on employment law issues.
2. Handle employment related matters such as employee terminations, EEOC charges and state administrative charges, DOL issues, FLSA reviews, and other government audits.
3. Monitor and interpret changes to and trends in government and legislative matters at the federal, state, local or international level related to employment law issues. Determine company impact and advise senior management accordingly. Recommend and implement specific company responses to changes in governmental and legislative policies.
4. Support the planning and execution phases of various company products, services and projects influencing a course of action that balances optimal business results with legal and regulatory concerns.
5. Perform complex research and investigations; design, draft, and submit documents concerning legal issues to maintain compliance with various laws and regulations; provide legal interpretation of laws and regulations. Draft and review legal documents and review proposed transactions to ensure maximum benefit to the corporation and minimum exposure to risk.
6. Communicate and negotiate with external parties, such as government authorities and counsel for third parties.
7. Render assistance and counsel to all divisions and departments on the meaning and application of the company's policies and procedures and on other legal matters to ensure compliance with applicable law and consistency with other policies in terms of company philosophy and goals.
8. Assist HR clients in periodic review of various policies and procedures.
9. Provide education to leadership on employment law compliance.
10. Collaborate with management to devise efficient compliance and defense strategies.
11. Provide direction to outside counsel and vendors hired to assist the company with specialized legal services.
12. Perform independent special projects of a legal and confidential nature for the department or company, as assigned.
13. Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures.
14. Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
* California license, preferred
* Excellent research and writing skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet specified deadlines
* Sound judgement and ability to quickly and effectively analyze situations and information

Lead Counsel - Employment Law
* Juris Doctorate degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school and admission to the Bar plus twelve (12) years' experience as an attorney with at least one (1) year of FedEx Experience and three (3) years' of experience practicing in the employment law area
* In-depth knowledge of employment laws
* Excellent research, negotiation, communication, and human relations skills

Sr Counsel - Employment Law
* Juris Doctorate degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school and appropriate admission to required state Bar plus ten (10) years' experience and demonstrated competence as a practicing attorney in the employment law area (both federal and state)
* Strong negotiation and human relations skills
* Strong written and verbal communication skills

Sr Attorney-Employment Law
* Juris Doctorate degree from an A.B.A. accredited law school and appropriate admission to required state Bar plus six (6) years' experience and demonstrated competence as a practicing attorney in the employment law area (both federal and state)
* Strong negotiation and human relations skills
* Strong written and verbal communication skills

WORKING CONDITIONS:
* Fast-paced, deadline oriented
* Some travel required

While this position is eligible to work remotely if the successful candidate is located outside the Memphis, TN or Harrison, AR areas, the candidate must reside within 50 miles of a FedEx Freight location within the continental U.S.

If the successful candidate is located in the Memphis, TN or Harrison, AR areas, the candidate will be required to work a hybrid schedule, working three days per week in the office.

Pay Transparency:

The compensation listed reflects the pay range or rate of pay reasonably expected for this posted position at the posted location(s). If this opportunity includes multiple job levels, the pay information represents the minimum and maximum range for all levels. Actual pay is determined by job-related factors permitted by law and relevant to the position, such as experience, tenure, market level, pay at the location for this job, performance, schedule, and work assignment.
