Job Description:

POSITION TITLE: SILP ("Self-Instructional Language Program") Tutor-instructor
STATUS:Part Time
DEPARTMENT: English, Philosophy, and World Languages
DIVISION: Arts
CLASSIFICATION: Adjunct Non-Union
REPORTS TO: Department Chair, English, Philosophy, and World Languages
HIRING RANGE: $50/hour

POSITION SUMMARY
SILP Tutor-instructors are generally native speakers with experience in language teaching who bring to the classroom a wealth of cultural and linguistic knowledge. Their role is to provide communicative opportunities to the students, and to create a self-guided environment for students to work on their language learning.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Meet with students in small group sessions as assigned
2.Reinforce conversational skills through various language pattern drills
3.Drill dialogues and exercises (pre-learned by the students)
4.Correct students' errors
5.Strengthen the comprehension ability of students when practicing conversational drills
6.Be a useful aid to the student in the study of the language

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1.Native fluency in the language to be taught
2.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.
3.Demonstrated commitment to the college's core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1.Experience teaching the language to be taught or prior work experience in an educational environment.
2.English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
3.Demonstrated multicultural competence.
