About the Job

The School of Public Health Division of Epidemiology and Community Health (EpiCH) is seeking applications for a full-time (100% FTE) Post-Doctoral Associate (9546 Post-Doctoral Associate) position. For more info on the division, visit https://www.sph.umn.edu/academics/divisions/epich/.

The post-doc will work with Dr. Jim Pankow, Dr. Tess Peterson, and their collaborators in or outside the University of Minnesota. This position is designed to support outstanding postdoctoral researchers in population multi-omics, particularly in the domain of cardiometabolic diseases. Part of this position will involve working with Dr. Pankow and Dr. Peterson on analyses and manuscripts using data from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA). Part of this position will also involve working with Dr. Peterson on analyses and manuscripts using data from both national and international HIV cohort studies. You will have the opportunity to work with top-tier faculty and access state-of-the-art resources, including data supported by the NHLBI-funded Trans-Omics for Precision Medicine (TOPMed) program. The role offers opportunities for professional development, including leading large-scale analyses with advanced statistical methods and leading manuscript preparation to enhance your research portfolio. Additionally, you will receive mentorship and support in developing and launching your own academic or industry research career.

Key Responsibilities:

Analysis of large datasets, both collaborative and independent projects (65%)
Scientific dissemination: publish research findings in academic journals and present results at local, national or international scientific conferences (25%)
Professional development: participate in courses, workshops, seminars, and conferences designed for skill-building and professional academic career development (10%)

Duration: This appointment is for 1 year and may be extended for a second and/or third year, depending on satisfactory performance and funding availability.

Starting Date: Negotiable. Position will remain open until filled.

Annual Salary: Based on NIH NRSA postdoctoral stipend levels.
Postdoc No Experience: $62,232
Postdoc 1 year of Experience: $62,652
Postdoc 2 years of Experience: $63,120

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A PhD in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Statistics, or a related field
  • Effective R programming skills
  • Previous research experience in statistical genetics/genomics/omics
  • A track record of research productivity, demonstrated through publications in peer-reviewed journals or other scholarly contributions
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive, respectful workplace

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Research experience and/or interest in cardiometabolic diseases
  • Interest in pursuing an academic career or advancing in research-related fields.
