SUMMARY:

The Manufacturing Engineering Team's primary mission is to continuously improve manufacturing processes by eliminating barriers to Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Productivity.

The Manufacturing Engineer II - Plating supports plating process design and optimization, tooling, troubleshooting, equipment procurement, and regulatory compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Plating Support ME will collaborate closely with area associates, the Plating Quality Technician, EH&S, the Materials Team, and other support groups to:

  • Ensure full regulatory compliance with OSHA, EPA, VDEQ, and all applicable standards.
  • Create and maintain Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) documentation.
  • Lead 6S improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain and enhance plating tooling and fixtures.
  • Review, investigate, and disposition plating-related discrepancies.
  • Track process yield and lead problem-solving activities to address yield losses.
  • Lead cross-functional problem-solving to resolve production and compliance issues.
  • Procure plating-related equipment and coordinate maintenance; prepare capital requests when necessary.
  • Champion safety improvements across personnel, equipment, and environmental systems.
  • Create and update plating-specific operations within routers.
  • Maintain and improve plating process documentation (IM, KPS, etc.).
  • Define process flows for non-standard operations.
  • Lead productivity improvements and compliance-enhancing projects.
  • Develop and manage Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) plans for baths and plating equipment.
  • Lead waste stream management planning.
  • Oversee regulatory audits and drive corrective action plans.
  • Develop training plans and conduct training audits for new associates.
  • Establish purchasing plans and methods for chemicals and consumables.
  • Implement a records management system for SDS, purchases, certifications, and other plating documentation.
  • Create reaction plans for non-standard plating conditions, ensuring both safety and process quality.
  • Serve as a backup for critical tasks typically performed by the Plating Quality Technician.
Education and Experience Requirements: Required:
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline; or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of manufacturing experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to create and interpret part drawings and process documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead small teams or work independently with minimal oversight.
Preferred:
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with plating and chemical surface treatment processes.
  • Project management experience.
  • Familiarity with Lean Production concepts, using at least three of the following tools:
    • Single-piece flow
    • Variation reduction
    • Standard work
    • Value stream mapping
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with proven root-cause analysis and implementation of permanent corrective actions.
  • Experience with Kaizen methodologies (Standard Work, 6S, Variation Reduction Kaizen).
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Experience analyzing performance data to identify productivity, quality, or compliance improvements.
