| Primary Purpose of the Position |
The Department of Health, Physical Education and Sport Studies a leader at Winston-Salem State University. We provide courses in several critical content areas. We currently serve the
WSSU community through our Health Education offering. Additionally, we offer undergraduates the chance to earn their Bachelor of Science in the following areas: Motorsports Management, Physical Education, and Sport Management. Additionally, Health & Physical Education and Sport Sciences offers minors in coaching, recreation, and sports medicine.
Duties include teaching, advising, coordinating, mentoring and supervising students for required experiential learning events; conducting scholarly research which results in publication; participation in the development of the academic curriculum; participation in the development of internship opportunities for students; participation in departmental, university, and professional service opportunities. |

Department Qualifications and Required Skills
We seek exceptional candidates who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching Sport Management courses to undergraduate students from all backgrounds. The following qualifications and skills are required for this position:
- Applicants must have a doctoral degree in Sport Management or a related discipline from a regionally accredited four-year institution of higher education.
- Must provide evidence of mentoring students through research experiences with a focus in Sport Management.
- Ability to participate in interdisciplinary teaching and research collaborations at the university, across universities, or within the broader community.
- Must demonstrate the ability to participate in interdisciplinary teaching and research collaborations with professional colleagues at the university, across universities, or within the broader public.
- Must demonstrate experience in the sport industry and an ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance curricular and co-curricular programs.
- Must illustrate commitment to their professional growth and development via engagement in professional organizations and professional conferences.

Duties include teaching Sport Management courses, participation in scholarly activities and research, participation on departmental, school and university committees assisting the sport management program coordinator in the re-accrediting process for the sport management program (Commission On Sport Management Accreditation)
Specific Job Duties
We seek a committed and engaged faculty member who will perform specific duties at a high level. These duties include but are not limited to the following:
Teaching and Advising The successful candidate will:
- Teach Sport Management courses primarily face-to-face but should have the ability to teach in online and hybrid formats
- Must construct detailed course syllabi
- Facilitate high quality, engaging instruction
- Leverage various technologies (e.g., Canvas, EAB Navigate) to communicate regularly with students, monitor student progress, and provide feedback on student success outcomes
- Engage with students during mandatory office hours each week
- Serve as an academic advisor
- Work collaboratively to enhance the strengths of our Sport Management curricular and co-curricular programs
- Work collaboratively to develop an Esports Management curriculum
Scholarship, Research, and Creative Activity The ideal candidate must:
- Have an explicit research agenda
- Produce scholarly research that results in publications in peer-reviewed journals in the Sport Management discipline
- Facilitate presentations at well-respected local, state, national and international professional conferences, and meetings within the discipline
- Engage in procuring sponsored research with interdisciplinary teams
University, Professional, and Community Service and Engagement
- Consistently attend departmental and College meetings
- Serve on departmental-level committees
- Serve on College- and university-level committees
- Maintain membership in discipline-specific professional organizations
- Assist discipline-specific professional organizations with reviews of conference proposals, peer-reviewed journal articles, and other professional engagement opportunities
