POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Precision Mechanical Engineer will integrate Precision Engineering principles into Dow-Key's machining and design practices. This role focuses on designing precision assembly fixtures and verification tools, developing standardized switch core components with critical precision features, and ensuring manufacturability. Additionally, the engineer will play a key role in supporting enhancements to quality check capabilities and driving cost reduction initiatives within the supply chain.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design precision assembly and verification tools that interface with switch core components.
  • Support components standardization by implementing precision features that interface with tooling.
  • Apply precision machining principles to ensure cost-effective manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with machinists, manufacturing, and design teams to translate design intent into production.
  • Conduct tolerance analysis, GD&T application, and process capability assessments.
  • Perform frequent hands-on measurement and inspection using advanced metrology tools.
  • Define verification methods and inspection strategies for precision features.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in precision, cost, and efficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS SUMMARY:

  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident - Green Card Holder.
  • Bachelor's degree (minimum) in Mechanical, Precision, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering or the equivalent combination of education and previous relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in precision engineering, machining, or high-accuracy product development.
  • Proven experience designing precision tooling, fixtures, or assemblies.
  • Strong background in GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and statistical process control.
  • Proficiency with CAD/CAM software (SolidWorks, NX, CATIA) and metrology tools (CMM, optical, laser).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Expertise in precision machining processes (grinding, lapping, EDM, High/Ultra-Precision CNC).
  • Strong understanding of design for manufacturability and cost efficiency.
  • Experience in automation is desired.
  • Skilled in tolerance analysis, error budgeting, and root cause problem-solving.
  • Proficiency in use of metrology equipment (CMM, profilometers, optical comparator, micrometer)
  • Effective communicator across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Self-starter with ability to drive projects under tight timelines.
  • Collaborate mindset with a willingness to engage in cross-training to elevate team-wide precision engineering practices.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to sit, stand, and move between office, lab, and shop floor environments.
  • Occasional lifting of parts, tools, or equipment up to 25 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity to handle precision instruments and small components.
  • Visual acuity for detailed inspection, measurement, and CAD model/drawing review.
  • Frequent use of microscopes, optical measurement systems, and metrology equipment.
  • Ability to wear required PPE (safety glasses, ESD smocks, gloves) in labs and production areas.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Combination of office, lab, and shop floor settings.
  • Regular interaction with machinists, engineers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Exposure to precision machining equipment, metrology tools, and clean assembly areas.
  • Moderate noise levels typical of a manufacturing environment.
  • Occasional travel between facilities or to suppliers may be required.
  • Collaborative, fast-paced environment focused on innovation and continuous improvement.

Work Arrangement : Onsite

Pay Range: $115,000.00 - $140,000.00annually

Bonus Eligible: This position is eligible to earn a discretionary bonus based on performance metrics and other criteria outlined in our applicable bonus plan.
