Human Resources Generalist

The HR Generalist will support the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including, but not limited to, recruiting, employee relations, payroll, leave administration, regulatory compliance, and administration of company policies and best practices by developing strong partnerships with the management and operational teams. The HR Generalist position will initially report directly to the Chief Administrative Officer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs customer service functions for all employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings; develops and maintains current job descriptions.
  • Conducts or acquires background checks, employee eligibility verifications, and coordinates with IT department for equipment and/or other related items required for new hire onboarding or staffing changes.
  • Maintains employee records, ensuring completion and accuracy of employee record details such as employee contact information, job classification, pay rates, organizational structure, staffing changes, leave administration, and other key changes.
  • Serve as payroll liaison for timecard accuracy, job costing, additional earnings, discrepancy resolution, pre-processing review, and audit support.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Conducts or assists with record audits and mandatory reports, which may include I-9 audits, EEO-1 filings, payroll audits, and other compliance reviews.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
  • At least three years of human resources experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization's HRIS and talent management systems (currently ADP WorkforceNow)
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
