The School of Medicine Office of Research, co-led by the Vice Dean for Basic Science Research and the Vice Dean for Clinical Research, oversees all basic science, clinical and translational research activities in the School of Medicine.


Your Role on the Team

The Research Development Analyst will report administratively to the Research Development Unit Manager with a matrix reporting structure to the Director for Research Operations and the Vice Deans of Basic Research and Clinical Research in the School of Medicine Office of Research. The Research Development Analyst provides comprehensive research development services and operational support to the School of Medicine (SOM) Research Development Unit (RDU).

Under the general direction from the SOM Research Development Unit Manager, the Research Development Analyst assists Principal Investigators (PIs) with activities related to the identification of intramural and extramural funding opportunities and proposal development support. In addition, the Research Development Analyst provides strong administrative support for the RDU operations, and the school's intramural research seed funding, incentive, faculty development and peer review programs.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
  • Ability to manage significant volume of transactions.
  • Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures, and techniques
  • Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding sponsor guidelines.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups to achieve results
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively with internal and external peers, managers, and teams
  • Proven program planning and management of projects
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Academic background and experience in selected area of research required.

Preferred:

  • Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
  • Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
  • Academic or industry experience in successfully writing grants and protocols and obtaining funding preferred.

Special Conditions:

  • Specific programmatic events will require travel to UCIMC in Orange.
  • No more than once a month, the workday will be shifted to end at 6:00pm.
