The Executive Director, Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) plays a pivotal leadership role in advancing City of Hope's mission to eliminate cancer disparities through proactive outreach, screening, and prevention initiatives. Reporting directly to the COHCCC Director, this position leads efforts to identify and overcome barriers to cancer screening and early detection within our catchment area. The Executive Director will also promote research collaborations, secure external NCI peer-reviewed funding, and guide programs aligned with the NCI P30 CCSG RFA. Operational and staff resources will be provided through the Cancer Center Support Grant and Administrative Core matching funds to meet these objectives.

In this job you will:
  • Assess and describe the catchment area and cancer burden across Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties, identifying key factors such as demographics, socioeconomic status, access to care, and environmental exposures.

  • Communicate findings regularly to COHCCC Leadership and Program Members to inform strategy and program development.

  • Develop and oversee outreach initiatives to engage the COE Community Advisory Board (CAB), community members, and local organizations to support cancer research and control efforts.

  • Facilitate regular CAB meetings that include Center Research Programs, Leadership, and Clinical Trials Office representation.

  • Identify and communicate community needs that can inform basic, translational, clinical, and population research, demonstrating how COE activities drive impactful scientific discovery.

  • Collaborate with clinical leaders to enhance recruitment of women, racial/ethnic minorities, and people across all life stages into clinical trials.

  • Disseminate evidence-based cancer education and screening interventions tailored to the populations in the COHCCC catchment area.

  • Advance cancer control policy and health access initiatives at local, state, and national levels.

  • Coordinate with regional and national Cancer Centers to share best practices and align COE efforts.

  • Develop and track measurable outcomes to evaluate the success of all COE initiatives.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone who:
  • Holds a Master's degree in Public Health, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.

  • Has 7-10 years of progressively responsible experience in community outreach or public health, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.

  • (Preferred) Holds a Doctorate in Public Health, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.

  • Demonstrates exceptional leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
