DESCRIPTION

Oversees inpatient phlebotomy and specimen processing at Jacobs Medical Center Rapid Response Lab. Responsible for scheduling adequate staff and ensuring acceptable turnaround times. Will interact with nursing staff, LIS, and IT to troubleshoot all issues pertaining to specimen collection and processing. Is responsible for oversight of pre-analytical automation line. Performs annual employee evaluations.

Monitors work to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures, internal policies and external regulations. Ensures safety and efficiency of all functions under supervision. Evaluates current procedures and maintains clinical policies and procedural manual in accordance with accrediting agency guidelines. Provides technical instruction and training to staff and/or students. Assists in the performance of age-specific phlebotomy procedures.

Analyzes operational data, generates metrics and produces reports. Serves as a knowledgeable resource for laboratory processing questions/concerns. Advises management on process/system improvement. Represents laboratory support services on committees and workgroups. Promotes and provides excellent customer service.

Provides direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees. Functions as advisor to unit and administration. Analyzes and resolves problems, interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas), and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives.

Supervises operations for 3 or more laboratories, and may have Lab Processing Supervisor I staff as direct reports. Staff perform work such as phlebotomy, specimen collection, labeling, glass washing, processing and delivery. Responsible for meeting quality assurance standards defined in the laboratory operating procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

  • A minimum of five (5+) or more years of relevant experience.

  • Experience and thorough knowledge of laboratory processing concepts, procedures, processes, and equipment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT).
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $97,200 - $182,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $46.55 - $87.16

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
