Responsibilities

The OHH Financial Navigator serves as an integral member of the Patient Access team and is responsible for assisting hospitalized patients and their families in understanding insurance coverage, financial responsibilities, and available financial assistance programs. This role focuses on proactive financial education and support by rounding daily on inpatients, reviewing coverage, and helping patients navigate financial barriers to care. The Financial Navigator works closely with case management, registration, and pre-certification to minimize avoidable denials and enhance the patient financial experience.

  • Review daily inpatient census to identify patients appropriate for financial navigation and initiate contact through bedside rounding.
  • Conduct financial interviews with patients and/or family members to review insurance coverage, benefits, co-pays, and estimated out-of-pocket costs.
  • Educate patients regarding available financial assistance programs, payment plans, and Medicaid eligibility, assisting with applications when appropriate.
  • Coordinate with Case Management and Pre-Certification teams to resolve coverage issues and prevent denials due to authorization or eligibility lapses.

Qualifications

Education: High school graduate or equivalent required. Some college coursework in business, finance, or healthcare preferred.

Experience: Five (5) years of job-related experience in Heath Care required. Knowledge of billing, collections, registration and reimbursement of Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurance required. Good investigative skills and telephone techniques. Accurate and detailed oriented. Must have good oral and written communication skills. Proven organizational skills needed. Must have the ability to develop, monitor, and conduct educational programs.

Working Knowledge: Windows based operating systems preferred. Professional verbal and written communication skills. Medical terminology and medical insurance knowledge preferred.
