Job Overview
The Unified Capability, VoIP Voice IP System technician IV is responsible for operating and maintaining voice and data related unified communications systems and IT tasks ensuring goals are accomplished. Meets timely response to outages and requests. Role will assist in the management and accountability of shop material to include bench stock, office supplies and tools and test equipment. May be assigned a trainer role within the scope of authority. Identify items needed for sustaining daily operations. This role is full time, onsite at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Reviews work to ensure production and accuracy of systems configuration, licenses and optimization.
- Reviews Communications Service Agreement (CSA) requirements for USAF compliance.
- Develops and submits reports to meet functional, contractual and compliance requirements.
- Conduct special communications management studies (traffic analysis, Fill Rate) as required.
- Works to install, test, program, maintain, and inspect UC and legacy voice systems and associated sub-systems (circuits, trunks, interface units, channel banks, alarm, and other associated equipment).
- Manages, programs and operates UC, voicemail (V/M) and converged network platforms.
- Manages power system(s) platforms in support of Unified Communications Systems.
- Performs diagnostics, isolation and corrective action on UC and other sub-systems to resolve outages.
- Coordinates with commercial agencies on necessary circuit assignments, activations and terminations (Bell South, MCI, Sprint, AT&T. etc.).
- Performs work in the field as a field technician to install customer premise equipment as needed.
- Performs technical solutions and costing projections for projects.
- May solicit market research for communications projects; reviews and recommend selection of vendor proposals
- Perform periodic preventative maintenance inspections and systems maintenance actions to ensure optimal delivery of services and longevity of system resources.
- Monitors results against technical specifications.
- Assists in developing and maintaining technical documentation.
- Document, track, and update any local tracking system or database system for the purpose of workload and metric reporting.
- Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with contractual, functional, and mission requirements.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- 8+ years of experience with Information Technology solutions. Or 3 years of experience and an accredited bachelor's degree in an IT field.
- High School diploma required. Bachelor's degree in an associated Information Technology discipline preferred.
- Understanding of enhanced 911 systems, Defense Information Systems Agency Unified Capabilities Requirements, and Time Division Multiplexing (TDM).
- 5+ years of relevant experience in network engineering experience specifically within Voice/ VoIP Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) with Voice Over IP experience (CCNP Voice or Collaboration) and maintain valid CCNP credentials.
- Extensive knowledge in:

- TCP/IP.
- Network routing and switching (subnetting, VLANS, STP, EIGRP, OSPF).
- Wireless technology and RF promulgation (802.11).
- perimeter networking (SDP).
- DHCP and OSI layers.
- Secure network platforms (SIPR, TACLANe).
- Network management software (SolarWinds).
- Unified communications
- Industry/DoD standards (IEEE, TIA, USAF/DISA).
- Trouble ticket tracking systems (Service Now).
- DoD 8140 Information Awareness Technology Certification (e.g. COMPTIA Security+).
- Advance knowledge in UC telecommunications principles (e.g., VoIP, Call Manager, switching, traffic, signaling, and networking sub-systems).
- Immediate knowledge on analog and digital TDM applications and uses.
- Advance use of test equipment (e.g. telephone test sets, volt and ohmmeters).
- Current on the latest technological advances within the IT industry.
- Excellent data, oral and written communication, and people skills. Ability to effectively communicate with customers.
- Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record pertinent to the position.
- Ability to successfully pass background checks and drug testing required on the contract.
- Ability to obtain and maintain clearances and certifications required by the government for the role.
- Able to lift up to 40 lbs. unassisted, heavier items assisted.
- Have correct color vision and fine motor skills and dexterity. Occasional prolonged standing and or working on ladders is required. Some work locations include non-environmentally controlled areas.
- Able to reside at a desk, troubleshooting network-related issues for extended periods.
