Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Automation Superintendent to join our talented team located in Cary, NC!

This role is critical to the successful execution of automation and Building Management System (BMS) installations on complex construction projects. The Automation Superintendent will oversee field implementation, progress tracking, and commissioning of automation systems, ensuring alignment with project schedules, safety standards, and quality expectations. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader with strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with trade partners, engineers, and project stakeholders.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Oversee and ensure the effective implementation of Fire Alarm Systems, Security Systems, Telecom Systems, and Automation (specifically Delta V systems)

  • Progress Tracking: Monitor and report on automation system milestones, ensuring alignment with overall construction schedules and identifying potential delays early.

  • Trade Coordination: Lead assigned vendors and subcontractors to meet project goals.

  • Procore Utilization: Navigate Procore to access and interpret construction drawings, specifications, submittals, and RFIs. Ensure field teams are working from the latest documents and drawings.

  • Hoylu Collaboration: Use Hoylu for visual planning, pull planning, and collaborative scheduling with trade partners to improve field coordination and accountability.

  • Bluebeam Use: Utilize Bluebeam to review, redline, and communicate changes on drawings, wiring diagrams, and control layouts to ensure field accuracy and coordination.

  • RFI Management: Assist in drafting and resolving RFIs related to automation systems to minimize schedule impact and maintain workflow continuity.

  • Quality Assurance: Conduct field inspections to verify proper installation of control wiring, sensors, actuators, and system components. Ensure compliance with design intent and industry standards.

  • Safety Leadership: Enforce site safety protocols and lead by example in maintaining a safe work environment during automation activities.

  • Client Interaction: Serve as a point of contact for automation-related inquiries from clients and consultants. Communicate progress, challenges, and solutions professionally.

  • Risk Mitigation: If project risks are identified, work to mitigate those in partnership with senior leadership.


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience or equivalent in construction automation, controls, or BMS systems.

  • Strong understanding of control system architecture, including sensors, actuators, relays, and low-voltage wiring.

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, wiring diagrams, and control schematics.

  • Proficiency in Procore, Hoylu and Bluebeam for construction management and collaborative planning.

  • Experience coordinating with multiple trades and managing field installations.

  • Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, and construction workflows.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse teams.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to troubleshoot field issues and propose practical solutions.

  • Strong experience reading and interpreting P&IDs and AF&IDs.

  • Experience with field instrumentation, including valve switch packs and pneumatic control systems.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Must possess the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required.
  • Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb ladders as necessary.

Work Environment

  • Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, which may include exposure to varying working conditions.
  • Must be able to adhere to strict cleanroom gowning protocol.

Travel

  • Must have the ability to travel and commute on a daily or routine basis to the client site or office.
  • Work schedule may require flexibility, including availability to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shifts, as well as weekends.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.

Safety

  • This position is a safety-sensitive position.
  • The employee is designated for field work and attends activities at client sites where they work in construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, research, or other "non-administrative" areas.

All interviews are conducted either in person or virtually, with video required.
