Job Objective(s): Provide pastoral support to the residents of St. Therese Southwest in coordination with the Pastoral Care Department. Responsible for the coordination of spiritual and religious activities on the campus. Job Responsibilities and Duties
- Assist Pastoral Team in planning liturgies, sacraments and memorial services.
- Assist Pastoral Team in coordinating chapel environment and chapel decorations in the Terraces.
- Lead weekly Scripture Class and bi-weekly Grief Support Group. Evaluate Pastoral Care programming for additional opportunities.
- Visit new residents to inform them of religious activities to the building. Visit residents in apartments, hospitals, or nursing homes, particularly in case of special needs, to provide pastoral care and psychological support.
- Arrange for flyers as needed for: Chapel Services, Greif Support, Memorial Services, and other religious activities.
- Assist as needed, with receptionist coverage.
- Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings and monthly resident meetings.
- Provide monthly reports to Resident Services Director regarding religious activities and individual visits.
- Assist with ordering of supplies for the Terraces Chapel- candles, incense, and wine, alter bread, etc.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications
- Strong desire to work with elderly people in need of spiritual services and ministry. In-depth understanding of the aging process.
- Minimum of four year degree with emphasis on pastoral care.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work as a team member.
Physical Requirements (based on essential responsibilities) Must be able to frequently perform tasks such as, but not limited to, those listed below:
- Bend, squat to floor to pick up debris, decorate chapel, interact with wheelchair bound residents, etc.
- Sees people and objects within 35 feet to monitor work areas.
Must be able to continuously perform tasks such as, but not limited to, those listed below:
- Move, push, pull and/or lift objects weighing 10 to 25 pounds.
- Use hands and arms for simple grasping, pushing and pulling religious objects, wheelchairs, chapel chairs, etc.
- Perform tasks requiring actions of muscles or groups of muscles to walk, stoop, bend, lift, and to carry objects
- Walk and/or stand for prolonged periods of time
- Speak clearly and make self understood in face-to-face interactions
- See objects closely to read directions, instructions, etc.
- Hear normal sounds and voices with some background noise to receive verbal instructions, answer telephones, communicate with others, etc.
- Tolerate scents/odors from incense or other pungent smells during religious celebrations.
Environment Works indoors in a climate-controlled environment majority of time. Some off site travel to nursing homes, hospitals, etc may be required to meet resident needs. Working Hours Typically Monday through Friday 9:00 am - 4:30 pm. Rotating Saturday and Sundays required. The work schedule and hours may vary from week to week. General Notes
