Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Supplemental Instruction Coordinator manages Supplemental Instruction (SI) through UNCW's University Learning Center. Supplemental Instruction provides peer-led, course-specific academic support sessions for small and large groups. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Recruit, train, manage, supervise, and evaluate peer Supplemental Instruction Leaders (SILs).
  • Revise and implement training curriculum based on standards from entities such as:

    • International Center for Supplemental Instruction
    • College Reading and Learning Association



  • Collaborate with ULC program coordinators to ensure consistent and effective delivery of academic support services.
  • Data entry, campus space scheduling, and other logistical tasks that support SI and ULC operations.
  • Partner with ULC coordinators to deliver presentations and conduct campus-wide outreach.
  • Implement assessment practices to measure SI program outcomes.
  • Analyze course data (D/F/W rates and student feedback) to identify courses eligible for support.
  • Stay updated on academic support trends, particularly group learning models (e.g. SI, Structured Learning Assistance, Peer Assisted Learning).

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Master's degree in Education, Higher Education Administration, a discipline supported by Supplemental Instruction, or in a related field.
  • Experience in academic support, higher education, or related field.
  • Experience teaching, supervising, and/or training students.
  • Experience gained while pursuing degree(s) is acceptable.
  • Knowledge of theories, models, and practices of learning, especially collaborative learning, is essential.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • PhD in Education, Higher Education Administration, or related field.
  • Experience teaching in higher education.
  • Knowledge of retention, persistence, and academic support theories and practices.
