Position Summary
This role is for a researcher who thrives on ambiguity and is driven to architect novel solutions for complex, often poorly defined clinical problems. As a Grad Hourly, you will do more than just run models; you will be expected to explore data to uncover new research questions, formulate unique approaches to solve them, and translate your work into high-impact publications. We are looking for a creative and relentless problem-solver who can navigate the path from a raw dataset to a robust, publication-ready result.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct fundamental and innovative research in applied machine learning for healthcare.
  • Formulate approaches to solve complex problems using well-defined algorithms and data sources.
  • Develop, implement, and rigorously evaluate machine learning models on large-scale health datasets.
  • Perform data exploration to uncover new questions and opportunities within clinical problem areas.
  • Maintain clean, version-controlled code and create reproducible research workflows.
  • Contribute to the writing and preparation of manuscripts for publication in top-tier journals and conferences.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications

    • Currently enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Electrical Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
    • Expert proficiency in Python, including deep learning with PyTorch and core data science libraries (NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn).
    • Demonstrated proficiency with Git for version control.
    • Solid understanding of machine learning theory (e.g., classification, regression, cross-validation).
    • A proactive and independent mindset, with a demonstrated ability to take initiative and navigate projects with unknown variables.

    Preferred Qualifications:

Prior project experience in Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing (NLP), or Multimodal Learning.

Strong theoretical depth, with the ability to explain the mathematical foundations and intuition behind ML algorithms.

Proficiency with research infrastructure, including Unix/Linux command line, cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), database querying (SQL), and containerization (Docker).

Solid software engineering fundamentals that go beyond basic scripting (e.g., data structures, algorithms, design patterns).
