About the Job

Job Duties:
100% Research
* Learn and perform mouse behavioral experiments focusing on models of alcohol use, acute and chronic pain. Perform hypersensitivity assessments and dissections for tissue collection.
* Learn and perform molecular experiments related to relevant research projects, including immunohistochemistry.
* Learn and perform relevant data analyses.
* Participate in lab meetings and scientific discussion.
* Assist with the transgenic mouse colony, including breeding, identification, weaning, genotyping. Maintain up to date records on colony status.

Qualifications

All required qualifications must be included in the application materials

Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or similar field OR a combination of education and relevant work experience to equal at least four years
* At least one year experience with rodent behavioral research.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience with rodent hypersensitivity testing (von Frey testing), rodent surgical procedures, and proficient in molecular biology techniques (PCR, immunohistochemistry).

About the Department

The Department of Pharmacology at the University of Minnesota is one of six basic science departments in the Medical School. The well-funded research programs of our primary faculty members focus on understanding and developing better treatments for cancer, addiction and the opioid crisis, cardiovascular disease, infectious disease, and metabolic syndrome. We also offer an undergraduate Pharmacology Minor, oversee the Molecular Pharmacology and Therapeutics Graduate Program (MPaT), teach fundamental principles of pharmacology to students in professional degree programs (MD, DDS, and MD/PhD), and provide individualized training experiences for our strong community of postdoctoral scholars. Our past trainees are now applying their skills to impactful careers in academia, medicine, industry, government, law, and regulatory oversight. Pay Range: $20.19 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 50% Appointment
