WHY DO WE NEED YOU?

The Packer I in Saint-Gobain Performance Ceramics & Refractories in Worcester is primarily responsible for the preparation of varying ceramic products for secure dispatching and/or shipment to appropriate stock location and/or customers. Packing may involve secure packaging with prefabricated shipping boxes and/or custom-building appropriate containers based on the work instructions or standard packing requirements. Responsible for the maintenance of accurate packaging records and appropriate inventory within the work area.

Shift details: 1st Shift (4:30 AM - 12:30 PM)
Type: Temporary (with potential of becoming permanent after 6 months)

Essential Functions:



  • Selects and erects prefabricated shipping boxes as directed by shipping instructions and/or builds box/crate and computes size, weight, and material requirements to adequately pack ceramic shapes.
  • Ensures any required packaging/shipping materials and special handling procedures required for safe national and international shipping are properly utilized.
  • Utilizes knowledge of routine packing procedures, techniques, and equipment. Assembles, lines, pads, wraps and transports cardboard boxes/cartons.
  • Examines and inspects containers, materials, and products to ensure that packing specifications are met. Removes any defective products or materials.
  • May be responsible for the transfer of product and/or materials from transportation vehicles and/or operate fork truck and other equipment to transport materials to and rom transportation vehicles and loading docks.
  • Other related duties assigned

Education/Experience Requirements:




  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent experience.
  • Computer skills/ knowledge required to complete custom orders.
  • General manufacturing skills such as blueprint reading, intermediate math skills (measure in standard and metrics using various measuring devices such as calipers, measuring tapes, micrometers, measuring tools) and basic computers skills are required.
  • This position requires up to 3 months' work experience to become proficient in most phases of the job to work independently.

If the employee transfers from temporary status to permanent status, the following benefits will also be available:

In addition to the hourly base pay rate, this position is eligible for periodic bonus payments/an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount can be up to 10% of eligible earnings based on company and individual performance measures. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.

  • Employee will be subject to a full body suit when sandblasting, to include helmet.
  • May be required to repetitively lift and/or move up to 50 pounds without assistance.

  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and smell.

Work Environment



  • While performing the duties of this job within the manufacturing environment, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.
