Position Description

Manage key programs to ensure that both internal and external customer expectations are met in terms of cost, timing and quality. Leads and coordinates program activities with a cross-functional team which may include sales, application engineering, purchasing, quality, costing, operations and other disciplines as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • This position is responsible for managing and planning programs. This may include business case development for potential new programs, managing program model launches for awarded business, control and management of program funding andmaintenance of on-going programs.
  • Assignments may include programs with a high level of risk, significant annual sales revenue ($3 million to $30 million USD), significant annual volume, a high degree of complexity and programs that have significant capital/tooling investment. Other programs with key customers may also be assigned at the discretion of management.
  • This position will manage programs by leading cross functional teams and may have direct supervision responsibilities. The incumbent must direct the activities of others, both internal and external to the company, to support programs without reporting authority. This position will frequently interact with the various customer functions, including purchasing, engineering, and quality.
  • Typically a Program Manager (PM) is assigned at the beginning of phase 2. The PM facilitates the APQP process by following SP2-7 and utilizing our current APQP tools for phases 2 through 5 of the APQP process. This includes the development of a timing plan. The plan will be communicated both internally and externally on a regular basis. The PM would monitor progress against the plan and the original business case and take actions as necessary to assure a successful program launch.
  • This position is also concerned with customer satisfaction and the profitability of the program from gate 2a through gate 5. During APQP phase 2 through 5 the PM will monitor delivery, quality, design changes, supplier changes, pricing adjustments, continuous improvement and ensures corrective actions are implemented to address open issues as necessary
Required Education & Qualifications
  • Minimum of an undergraduate college degree, preferably a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (or related technical discipline).
  • Minimum 7 years experience interfacing with customers, with at least 2 years supervisor/management experience. Working knowledge of quality systems (QS-9000, VDA, or TS 16949 standards) and program launch disciplines required.
  • Requires good communication and interpersonal skills, as well as abilities in team leadership, problem solving, decision making, conflict resolution, and quality planning. May require supervisory skills if responsible for direct reports. Also must be skilled in the use of program management software, such as Microsoft Project or similar.
