The Level 3 DDC Controls Technician is a senior field role responsible for independently installing, commissioning, and troubleshooting Direct Digital Controls (DDC) systems in commercial and industrial facilities. This position requires strong technical expertise, the ability to mentor junior technicians, and confidence in leading field activities with minimal supervision. The Level 3 Technician plays a key role in ensuring that DDC systems are installed correctly, programmed effectively, and delivered to the customer with full operational functionality.

Responsibilities:

Installation & Commissioning

  • Lead the installation and wiring of DDC panels, devices, and sensors according to project specifications.

  • Perform advanced point-to-point checkouts and system-level commissioning.

  • Verify and troubleshoot control sequences in collaboration with programmers and engineers.

  • Ensure installations comply with local codes, OSHA standards, and company policies.

  • Lead small installation teams in the field and oversee the work of Level 1 and Level 2 Technicians.

Troubleshooting & Service

  • Independently diagnose and resolve complex issues with wiring, communications, and control devices.

  • Utilize software tools (Niagara, Tridium, or equivalent) to troubleshoot system integration and performance.

  • Provide on-site technical support during project startup and warranty/service calls.

  • Work directly with customers to explain system functionality and resolve operational concerns.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Prepare accurate as-built documentation, redline drawings, and turnover packages.

  • Submit detailed commissioning and testing reports.

  • Provide feedback to project managers and engineers on system performance, field conditions, and design improvements.

Leadership & Development

  • Mentor and train Level 1 and Level 2 Technicians, providing guidance on installation best practices and troubleshooting techniques.

  • Support Project Managers and Programmers by acting as the technical lead in the field.

  • Participate in continuous training and certification programs to maintain and advance expertise in building automation systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 6-9 years of experience in HVAC controls, electrical, or building automation systems.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical school, apprenticeship, or Associate's degree preferred.

  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Strong proficiency with low-voltage wiring, device installation, and control system commissioning.

  • Proven ability to read and interpret complex wiring diagrams, sequences of operation, and engineered drawings.

  • Hands-on experience with building automation software platforms (Niagara, Tridium, Distech, Johnson, Siemens, Honeywell, or similar).

  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve advanced system and communication network issues.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in construction and mechanical environments.

The anticipated hourly range for this role is $40.38-$58.77 per hour (presented in good faith). In addition to base pay, employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, and may be eligible for performance incentives, bonuses, commissions, or equity, depending on the role.

Actual pay will depend on factors such as internal equity, skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. This range supports our commitment to pay transparency and compliance with applicable laws. Compensation may vary by work location, including remote arrangements.
