Exhibit Support Librarian
This is a 10-month, part time 8 hours per week position with no possibility of renewal or extension.

Reporting to the Lead Public Services Librarian, co-curates the Fall 2026 Ding Darling exhibit to be featured in the University of Iowa Main Library Gallery Performs collections management duties such as updating descriptions in finding aids to make the Jay N. "Ding" Darling collection more discoverable and accessible for research. This position will also support public services activities including reference and reading room operations.

General responsibilities include:

* Working directly with the Jay N. "Ding" Darling Papers to create content, research, item selection, narrative text writing,in support of the exhibit following agreed-upon curator deadlines.

* Creation of digital resources to accompany the main gallery exhibit, for example a 150-year timeline, LibGuide, and essays.

* Collaborating closely with colleagues working in areas of special collections, conservation, exhibit outreach and coordination, and digitization.

* Collaborating with individuals and institutional stakeholders related to the life and legacy of Ding Darling.

* Identify physical and born-digital materials from the Jay N. "Ding" Darling Papers in need of further description and improved arrangement, and complete description and arrangement in collaboration with the Lead Public Services Librarian and the Processing Coordinator Archivist.

* Identify collection materials from the Jay N. "Ding" Darling Papers in need of conservation treatment or updated housing.

* Work with student employees to audit analog audio dictabelt recordings that have been digitized from the Jay N. "Ding" Darling Papers.

* Support day-to-day operations in the department, including serving at the reference desk in the reading room.

* Provide reference services on a variety of topics related to the Jay N. "Ding" Darling papers and other collections as needed.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

* A graduate degree in library science from an ALA accredited institution.

* Training in or demonstrated knowledge of standards and best practices for describing manuscripts, including DACS and EAD.

* Experience arranging and describing archival collections.

* Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based setting where consultation, flexibility, reliability, initiative, creativity, collaboration, and cooperation are essential.

* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

* Demonstrated ability to support a welcoming and respectful environment in a job-related experience, an academic setting, and/or the community.

Desired Qualifications

* Understanding of extensible processing practices and demonstrated ability to apply processing levels and use minimal processing techniques.

* Demonstrated experience working with the Jay N. "Ding" Darling Papers.

* Experience working with ArchivesSpace or similar archival collection management systems.

* Demonstrated interest in professional development that will enhance the candidate's value to the Libraries, the University, the profession, or the scholarly community.

Compensation

This is a biweekly hourly position with rate of pay at $26.44/hour for 8 hours a week, position lasting 10 months at the Specialist Librarian (PLB2/4A) classification.
