We Require
Three years of transportation planning experience Bachelor's degree in Planning, Engineering, or a closely related field Postgraduate degrees in a related field or professional-level-related experience may substitute for the education or experience on a year-for-year basis Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire
We Also Value
Two years of Senior Planner or Supervisor experience Six years of transportation planning, engineering design, or other closely related field Prior experience working with a state or local government Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or registration as a Professional Engineer (PE)
Job Contributions
Supervise planners and subordinate staff by interviewing and selecting staff, assigning and directing work, providing training, establishing goals, evaluating performance, counseling, and disciplining employees as needed Oversee escalation of conflict or appeal of staff decisions, including Right-of-Way preservation, Planning Studies, Active Transportation, ADA Facility Requests, Patent Easement Abandonments, Unpaved Roadways, Park Roadway Planning, Development Review, and Project Programming Strategize, present, negotiate, and implement partnership opportunities with other jurisdictions. These efforts usually involve coordinating with leadership from MAG, ADOT, FHWA, and City/Town elected officials Oversee the transportation grant program to identify and track new opportunities, forecast resources, develop competitive bids, and successfully procure grant funding Assist leadership in developing departmental goals, providing input regarding departmental policies, and recommending and implementing process improvement efforts Oversee short/mid/long-range planning projections and ensure delivery of programming recommendations Provide guidance in the creation of solutions to internal/external customer needs Represent Leadership goals and directives in meetings or projects with other jurisdictions. Meet with various levels of staff, including leadership, engineers, consultants, and the public, to communicate planning requirements Operational budget development and monitoring Provide clear and accurate technical guidance to other departments, the regulated community, consultants, attorneys, other regulatory agencies, and the public Manage and oversee special projects as assigned by the Director Apply planning and engineering technical knowledge in the development of guidelines, standards, and recommendations as they relate to the roadway network Other job duties as assigned
