Job Summary

The Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise will teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, as applicable; be involved in course and curriculum development; be responsible for developing or maintaining a program of research; and participate on College and University committees and/or initiatives.

Located between the cities of Fort Myers and Naples, FGCU is just two hours by car from the major cities of Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, and Miami, and 15 minutes from the Southwest Florida International Airport. One of 12 universities in the State University System of Florida, FGCU is a Carnegie Doctoral/Professional University classified for Community Engagement.

The Daveler and Kauanui School of Entrepreneurship at FGCU is one of the only standalone schools of entrepreneurship in the United States and has over 1,000 undergraduates in its degrees in Entrepreneurship as well as the undergraduate degree in Digital Media Design. The School is planning to launch a concentration and minor in Family Enterprise in Fall 2026. The School also offers a signature Runway Program Startup Incubator for students and alumni, and a Veterans Florida Entrepreneurship Program for training and upskilling U.S. Veterans.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Plans, prepares, and teaches assigned courses, including developing syllabi, instructional materials, and assessments.
  • Delivers consistent, interactive, and engaging lectures aligned with curriculum goals and accreditation standards.
  • Maintains the highest standards of classroom instruction and engages in reflective self-assessment to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Holds regular office hours and provides academic advising and individual support to students.
  • Utilizes the University's learning management system and other instructional technologies effectively.
  • Collaborates with departmental faculty on curriculum development and program advancement.
  • Ensures curriculum outcomes and accreditation standards are met.
  • Establishes and maintains an active research program, including opportunities for undergraduate student involvement.
  • Demonstrates evidence of scholarly publication and grantsmanship.
  • Engages in continued professional development and maintains professional skills appropriate to rank and field.
  • Actively participates in departmental, college, and university committees and meetings.
  • Contributes to community, institutional, and professional service in support of the University's mission.
  • Participates in faculty evaluation, student learning assessment, and required training activities.
  • Communicates professionally and in a timely manner with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators.
  • Upholds the highest standards of integrity, responsibility, and excellence in all professional activities.
  • Complies with University policies, procedures, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree (Ph.D., D.B.A., Ed.D.) in Entrepreneurship (e.g., management, marketing, finance, strategy, etc.) or related field from an AACSB accredited business school or equivalent accreditation.
  • ABDwill be considered if degree is conferred by August 7, 2026. If successful candidate isABD, appointment will be made at a Lecturer level on a fixed contract.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated potential to build a successful record of publications.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one of the following areas:
    • Family enterprise
    • Entrepreneurial mindset
    • Entrepreneurial skills, competencies, expertise, or practice
    • Differentiation, growth, and scaling
    • Sustainable entrepreneurship
  • Experience working with student co-curricular events and activities related to entrepreneurship and/or family enterprise.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with colleagues outside your discipline.
  • Familiarity with experiential learning techniques in entrepreneurship and/or family enterprise.
  • Experience successfully mentoring student start-up ideas.
  • Experience working with members of an entrepreneurial ecosystem beyond the campus.
  • For candidates with doctoral or other terminal degrees that are not AACSB accredited, 5 years of significant entrepreneurial experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of major concepts, assumptions, debates, processes of inquiry, and ways of knowing that are central to the discipline(s).
  • Understanding how to use digital and interactive technologies for efficiently and effectively achieving specific learning goals.
  • Knowledge of critical thinking processes and understanding how to help learners develop high level questioning skills.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of inquiry-based instructional models and strategies.
  • Knowledge and ability to use technology in various teaching modalities (e.g. Face-to-face, synchronous online or asynchronous online).
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders both within and outside the University in the development and delivery of instruction, resulting in improved student learning.
