Summary of Job Duties:This position will assist students in the sign language lab. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy. Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Diploma is required.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

    • Any degree from an institution of higher learning is preferred (Associate's or higher).

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    The primary function of this position is to provide language modeling, mentorship, and tutorial

    services to the students of ASL I - IV courses.

    • Work with students taking ASL language courses with lab assignments;
    • Assist with sign language development;
    • Provide a discussion-based interaction to evaluate ASL language usage;
    • Meet with the faculty teaching language for any specific language assignments to address;
    • Model proper ASL language usage;
    • Monitoring ASL Language lab (sign-in/out of students).

    Secondary functions of this position are to assist with simulated courses for Interpreting I and II

    for students seeking a BA degree in Interpretation: ASL/English.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Required:

    • Must be a person who is Deaf;
    • Must be a person whose native language is ASL;
    • Must be able to use and demonstrate the use of a Video Phone.

    Preferred:

    • Interpreting experience or exposure to mentor interpreting students in their interpretation processing;
    • Simulation experience or exposure to assist with Interpretation courses with simulated interpreting scenarios;
    • Must be knowledgeable of computers and manage Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
