The Cerner CORE- Central Operations specialist serves as a subject matter expert supporting the design, build, and maintenance of the Cerner Millennium enterprise domain. This role is primarily responsible for managing locations, positions, roles, and security templates within the CORE (Centralized Oracle/Cerner Resource) framework. The CORE Specialist partners with clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders to ensure domain integrity, security alignment, and standardization across facilities.

Type of Employment: Full time, other employment statuses may be considered.

Work Location/Travel: Expected 50% travel required; applicants must be free from travel restrictionsto accommodate evolving client needs.

Salary Range: $121,754 - $151,791 Competitive salary/pay, potential for bonus. There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position is highly competitive but dependent upon employment type (1099, contract, W2).

Reports to: Clinical Capability Lead

Direct Reports: This role has no direct reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Build, maintain, and validate locations, roles, and positions in Cerner Millennium in accordance with Cerner Model standards.

  • Establish and govern security templates, permissions, and access rules to ensure compliance and consistency.

  • Collaborate with clinical and operational leaders to align roles with end-user responsibilities.

  • Manage requests for new roles/positions, ensuring appropriate review, approval, and configuration within CORE.

  • Partner with deployment teams to ensure smooth provisioning of user access during activations and onboarding.

  • Document governance processes for locations and roles, ensuring audit readiness and adherence to VA/DoD requirements.

  • Troubleshoot issues related to security access, role mapping, or provisioning workflows.

  • Contribute to change management by providing guidance on CORE-related impacts during upgrades or workflow changes.

  • Provide training and support to project team members and end users regarding role assignment and security principles.

Education/Certification Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications/training, or work experience.

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years of direct Cerner Millennium experience with hands-on build in CORE (locations, roles, positions, security templates).

  • Strong knowledge of the Cerner Model and domain governance standards.

  • Prior experience supporting VA or DoD MHS GENESIS deployments (required).

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with clinical, operational, and IT stakeholders.

  • Experience with troubleshooting and resolving complex Cerner security and provisioning issues.

  • Experience developing and enforcing governance policies across multi-facility Cerner implementations.

  • Ability to professionally convey a point of view based on significant industry experience.

  • Expert in knowledge transfer capabilities.

Technical Skills Required:

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft (MS) Office 365 skills to include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.

  • Strong proficiency in Systems Engineering.

  • Hands-on experience configuring locations, positions, roles, and security templateswithin the CORE domain.

  • Strong understanding of Cerner Provisioning workflowsand Domain Governance.

  • Ability to align builds with the Cerner Model(standard workflows and best practices).

  • Understanding of how model decisions impact provisioning, workflows, and end-user access.

  • Expertise in role-based access control (RBAC), permission sets, and security group managementin Cerner.

  • Troubleshooting access, authentication, and privilege escalation issues.

  • Familiarity with provisioning requests, audit requirements, and compliance standards(HIPAA, FISMA, FedRAMP).

  • Proficiency with CORE build tools(Location Manager, Position Manager, Role Manager).

  • Familiarity with Lights on Network (LON)for monitoring and auditing user access.

  • Knowledge of Cerner Command Language (CCL)for reporting and validation tasks (preferred).

  • Understanding of how CORE interacts with Cerner Millennium modules(FirstNet, SurgiNet, RadNet, etc.).

  • Knowledge of Active Directory (AD) / Identity Managementintegration for user provisioning.

  • Experience working with ticketing systems(ServiceNow, Remedy, etc.) to resolve access and role issues.

  • Ability to develop and execute test scriptsfor new roles/locations/positions.

  • Conduct regression testing for security changes during upgrades or patches.

  • Skills in creating role reports, security audits, and compliance documentation.

  • Ability to analyze provisioning data and recommend standardization / cleanupof CORE domain.

  • SQL query writing (preferred).

  • Microsoft Office Suite / Excel (pivot tables, data validation for user-role mapping).

  • Clinical workflow understanding to align roles with real-world job functions.
