The Stationary Engineer Apprentice participates in a structured training program to learn the skills needed to operate, maintain, and repair stationary mechanical equipment. This equipment can include boilers, heating and cooling systems (HVAC) and other machinery that provides essential utilities to buildings or industrial processes.

Education

High school diploma or GED.

Experience

Preferred 1 year experience in a healthcare setting

Skills

  • Ability to work safely and abide by safety guidelines.
  • Mechanical aptitude and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to learn and update skills.

Licensures, Certifications

  • Obtain Grade 5 license within 6 months of employment.
  • Valid state driver's license

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Learn to work safely:Adhering to safety guidelines is paramount in this role.
  • Assist in the maintenance of equipment:This includes diagnosing issues, repairing or replacing parts, and performing routine maintenance.
  • Monitor and adjust equipment:Apprentices learn to read gauges and meters to track operating conditions, adjust controls, and switch to backup equipment when needed.
  • Record data:Maintaining accurate logs of equipment operations and maintenance is a key responsibility.
  • Participate in training:Apprentices receive hands-on training and classroom instruction to gain technical knowledge and skills.
  • Learn to troubleshoot and repair:Apprentices develop problem-solving skills to identify and fix equipment malfunctions.
  • Operating engines, boilers, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Reading gauges and meters to track boiler operations.
  • Monitoring water, chemical, and fuel levels in boilers.
  • Adjusting controls and valves to regulate equipment operation.
  • Inspecting equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation.
  • Performing routine maintenance tasks.
  • Maintaining accurate records of operation, maintenance, and safety activities.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to stand and walk for up to seventy percent of work time and to lift, carry, push, pull up to 80 pounds.
  • Ability to stoop, balance, climb, kneel and crouch.

Working Conditions

  • Regular exposure to bright light, extreme temperatures, noise and vibration of operating equipment for up to eighty percent of work time.
  • Exposure to heights, heating and cooling equipment and electrical systems.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must obtain Grade 5 license within 6 months of employment.

Pay Range

$24.11 - $39.54

Final salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience and alignment with our organizational needs.
