Job Overview
Maintain grounds of industrial, commercial, or public property, camp and picnic grounds, parks, playgrounds, and athletic fields, and repair structures and equipment. The Laborer, Grounds Maintenance maintains grounds property for buildings, camp and picnic grounds, parks, playgrounds, and athletic fields performing one or more of the following tasks: cut grass, using walking-type or riding mowers, trim hedges and edges around walks, flowerbeds, and wells, using hedge trimmers, clippers and edging tools, prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth. Job duties also include the following: planting grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs, watering lawn and shrubs during dry periods, using a hose or activating a sprinkler system, picking up leaves, paper, or other litter. Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Loads and unloads trucks, and other conveyances.
- Move supplies and materials to proper location by Hand, Wheelbarrow or trucks.
- Dig, fill and tamp earth excavations.
- Level ground using pick, shovel, tamper and rake.
- Shovel concrete, soil and asphalt.
- Clean culverts and ditches.
- Cut, remove trees, brush and palms.
- Cuts vegetation using walking-type or riding mowers {less than 2000 lbs.).
- Operates power tools such as lawnmowers, weed eaters, edger's, blowers, drills, air hammers, earth tampers, generators, air compressors, sump pumps, concrete saws, routers, etc.
- Trim hedges and edge around walks/curves, flowerbeds, and wells, using hedge trimmers, clippers, and edging tools.
- Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth using shears and other hand tools.
- Plant sod, flowers, spread grass seed, trees, and shrubs.
- Water lawn and shrubs during dry periods using hose or activating sprinkler systems during the day or night.
- Pick up and cart away leaves, paper, or other litter.
- Spread concrete and asphalt on concrete and paving jobs using the appropriate hand tools for the job.
- Clean hand tools, machinery and work area.
- Wash, wax, vacuum, and polish vehicles.
- Move and arrange heavy pieces of office and household furniture, equipment, and appliances.
- Move heavy pieces of machinery and equipment.
- Spread sand and salt on icy roads and walkways.
- Responsible for timely reporting of accidents, injuries, and hazardous situations.
- Perform operator maintenance such as lubricate and make minor repairs to mowers and attachments such as tightening bolts, replacing washers, replacing blades & sharpening, cotter pins, screws, cleaning, greasing, checking fluid levels, and adding as required, checking tire air pressure, braking system, to mower, and make operator adjustments, and repairs.
- Clean rock beds and xeriscaping.
- Cut, prune, and/or remove trees.
- Perform all other duties assigned.

Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- Three years of experience in commercial/industrial grounds maintenance.
- Professional knowledge of turf, plants, plant bedding, soil, tree maintenance, pruning, removal, fertilizer application, weed control, and other landscape issues.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- One year of similar experience.
- Knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid State Driver's License.
- Knowledge of hand-held power tools.
- Ability to understand working knowledge of hazardous, safety, and environmental warnings.
- Knowledge of machines used in grounds maintenance, such as riding mowers
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, and team lift 51 pounds or more
- Must be willing to travel to San Clemente Island for quarterly maintenance.
Preferred:
- 3-5 years of previous experience in a similar role.
Other Requirements:
- Must be able to complete a criminal record background check and drug screen.
- Must be able to drive a company vehicle and be insured.
- Must comply with all company policies
