Your Job

Georgia-Pacific is seeking an Electrical Power Distribution Leader to join our Maintenance Team in Big Island, VA. This position is directly responsible for total mill power distribution systems along with the E&I training program. This individual must have extensive knowledge in electrical power distribution, motors, drives, and PLCs. Strong leadership skills, combined with the ability to build strong teams and effectively communicate are essential for this role. The position will provide management and expertise across all mill electrical assets. The Electrical Power Distribution Leader will report to the Maintenance Manager and play a key role within the team.

Our Team

Georgia-Pacific's Big Island, VA containerboard mill is located at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the James River and produces the paper used to make boxes. Half of the production is made from 100% recycle fiber and the other half uses about 25% recycle fiber. The mill employs about 330 people.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and direct power distribution efforts across the mill.
  • Drive safety and compliance excellence through effective work execution, personally modeling safe behaviors.
  • Ensure safe electrical work practices and arc flash prevention in accordance with GP ESWP standards, National Electrical Code, and NFPA 70E.
  • Ensure proper operation, inspection, and repair of electrical power distribution equipment, maintaining standards of NFPA 70B.
  • Ensuring compliance with all electrical codes, standards, regulations, and industry best practices (NFPA70, NEC, ANSI, OSHA).
  • Provide expertise on Transformers, Motors, VFDs, starters, relays, etc.
  • Provide mentorship, technical support, and direction to electrical engineers and technicians.
  • Assist in developing asset strategies, end of life strategies, and implementation of continuous condition monitoring.
  • Lead electrical cold mill outage team, including temporary power setup and execution.
  • Work with project managers on planning, development, and execution of electrical capital projects.
  • Be an SME for Root Cause Failure Analysis on electrical equipment failures.
  • Responsible for maintaining transformer maintenance and oil health program.
  • Manage outside engineering and electrical contractor resources as required.
  • Remaining current on electrical standards, techniques, and practices.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

    Associate degree in Electrical Technology or equivalent. Four (4) plus years electrical power distribution experience in a heavy industrial, manufacturing, or military environment Strong technical skills in electrical and instrumentation systems Experience using Microsoft Office programs such as Word (to write business correspondence), Excel (for use of spreadsheets, reporting, simple formulas) and Outlook (for internal and external correspondence)
