DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Utility Plant Operator, you will have a crucial role in overseeing an inmate work crew in the performance of tasks related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of the boiler plant, which is responsible for providing heat and hot water to the facility. Your main responsibility will be to ensure the efficient operation of two 800 HP Cleaver-Brooks boilers, under normal and emergency conditions. This will require you to utilize both manual and automatic control operation systems and to accurately read and interpret visual and aural gauges, meters, and sensing devices. Additionally, you will be responsible for performing scheduled and non-routine maintenance and operational assessments. This may include tasks such as cleaning and maintaining equipment; making minor repairs; and testing boiler water, chemistry, and water softening systems. You will also be responsible for maintaining detailed logs of all tests performed and keeping track of inventory for water treatment chemicals and other supplies needed for testing. Your attention to detail and knowledge of plant operations will be crucial in promoting a secure and functional environment for staff and inmates.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
- Work hours to be determined. Work schedule will include rotating days off.
- This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes). However, a higher salary may be established in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.

- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
