The Cash Application Specialist is responsible for assisting with cash application functions for the firm with emphasis on timely and accurate recording of cash applications. Maintains positive contact with attorneys and support staff; observes confidentiality of client and firm matters. This position reports to the Manager, Cash Applications and Credit Balances.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
  • Records all forms of cash receipts in the firm's accounting system.
  • Accurate performance of cash reversals, cash reapplications and write-offs.
  • Communicates with attorneys and staff on cash application topics.
  • Researches payments that are not readily identifiable, and communicates with clients, banks and attorneys as appropriate.
  • Daily reconciliations.
  • Complies with policies and escalates appropriately, both exception requests and recommendations for positive change.
  • Regular and dependable attendance is an essential function of the job.
  • Communicates with billers and collection staff on credit balances.
  • Backup support for refund letters and trust forms.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
  • Completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Approximately two years of on the job experience in order to gain an understanding of general accounting policies and procedures and effectively to carry out routine finance duties with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of general accounting rules and principles.
  • Ability to demonstrate impeccable integrity in personal and fiduciary matter.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate and follow instructions effectively from a diverse group of attorneys, clients and staff and provide information and "high customer service" with ordinary courtesy and tact, using various modes of communication, such as: in person, by phone, e-mail and instant messaging.

In accordance with applicable Federal and State laws, the anticipated annual salary range for this position, depending on location, is as follows: Boston, MA: $52,500 to $72,050; Chicago, IL: $52,500 to $72,050; Melville, NY: $57,500 to $79,200;New York, New York: $57,500 to $79,200; Providence, RI: $47,500 to $65,450; Rochester, NY: $47,500 to $65,450; Washington, DC: $52,500 to $72,050

In addition to a standard benefits package, this role may be eligible for additional contingent compensation based on an array of factors, including but not limited to: work performance, geographic location, work experience, education, and qualifications. Because such contingent compensation is not yet calculable or may be zero ($0) in some circumstances, the above-listed salary range(s) are Nixon Peabody's good faith estimate of the annual salary(ies) it reasonably expects to pay for the position at the time of this posting.
