Description
The Data Engineer (DE) will design, build, and maintain data pipelines and other infrastructure to support data analytics, machine learning, and business intelligence initiatives according to the IS Delivery Model, the IS Charter, and feedback from the Project/Portfolio Manager or Coordinator. DEs use technical expertise to scope requests and collaborate with the project team to deliver the solution.
DEs will develop retrieval, processing, and storage solutions that are efficient, cost-effective, and scalable while optimizing performance and reliability across multiple platforms and technologies. DEs test the solution to ensure appropriate functionality and integrity. DEs deploy with considerations to run support and sustainment.
DEs manage development efforts using analytical thinking, organization, and effective communication amongst the technical team and the business.
DEs will collaborate with stakeholders across departments to ensure seamless data integration, governance, and security compliance as the developed solution relates to the business need.
Primary Duties
- Participate in/Lead/Fully architect the design, development, and maintenance of data pipeline solutions to efficiently collect, process, and store large volumes of structured and unstructured data for bioMerieux.
- Effectively communicate with the business regarding project scope, planning, budget, required resources, risks, coordination, and governance (follow the IS Delivery Model).
- Performs with considerable/little/no management guidance.
- Can work on a few/several/many projects simultaneously.
- Provide value to the organization through basic/complex/advanced data engineering skills.
- Interact with leadership on occasion/ /often to present data that will impact the business.
- Prioritize and complete data requests on time with an emphasis on quality and accuracy.
- Participate in collaboration efforts with global data development teams (e.g. bioMerieux France, Cognizant development team in India).
- Write documentation for analysis methods, specifications and reports. Documents typically describe models, design (architecture), and algorithms. The content of the documentation should be adjusted to match audience.
- Understand bioMerieux's technical and scientific mission.
- Must be familiar with a variety data engineering and data solutions concepts, practices, and procedures and follow standard operating protocols.
- Provide data application/software utility training to internal employees.
- Collaborate with internal data teams and subject matter experts to ensure the accuracy and validity of deliverables.
- Work as part of a team.
- Continually update technical knowledge and skills, including participation in technology trainings and certifications.
- Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of bioMerieux's Quality System.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- The Data Engineer requires a Bachelor's degree, Computer Science, IS, DBA, or IT are preferred with 3 years+ of experience in Data Engineering, Database Administration, or ETL/ELT Development
- OR High School Diploma or GED with 6years+ of experience in Data Engineering, Database Administration, or ETL/ELT Development
- Experience includes:
- data engineering best practices and languages: MS SQL/TSQL, MySQL, Amazon Redshift SQL, etc.
- cloud-based data storage tools: Snowflake, AWS, SAP Hana, MS Azure, etc.
- data integration best-practices and tools: Informatica, Alteryx, Oracle, etc.
- database orchestration best-practice and tools: Dagster, Apache Airflow, Cloud Composer, DataStage, etc.data visualization best practices and tools: Tableau, SAP Analytics Cloud, Power BI, DOMO, etc.
- Preferred Experience:
- data visualization best practices and tools: Tableau, SAP Analytics Cloud, Power BI, DOMO, etc.
- working with data from a business ERP system: SAP ECC, Oracle, Mas (Sage) 500, etc.
- working with data from a business CRM system: SalesForce, Hubspot, Apptivo, etc.
- Microsoft applications and flow chart software.
