We are seeking an Electrical Support Technician, to lead scheduling and coordination of service and to assist APL Electricians with maintaining, inspecting, testing, altering, and repairing electrical UPS systems.

As an APL Electrical Support Technician, you will ...

  • Coordinate the scheduling of preventative maintenance and service of building electrical systems with a heavy focus on UPS systems.
  • Build and maintain documentation of electrical equipment inventory as needed.
  • Diagnose and solve problems using detailed processes where available and make recommendations for process and equipment improvements where needed.
  • Assist APL Electricians with ensuring the operational safety of building electrical systems with a heavy focus on UPS systems.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you ...

  • Possess familiarity and basic knowledge of building electrical systems and UPS systems;
  • Are you proficient in PC tools including Microsoft Office and E-mail;
  • Possess organizational skills and be able to document work efficiently;
  • Are highly motivated with strong customer focus and the ability to interface with all levels of staff;
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple and shifting tasks and prioritize work to meet deadlines;
  • Have the ability to use hand tools, power tools, and electrical test equipment;
  • Possess a valid driver's license and will be subject to a driving record evaluation;
  • Are able to work day shift, Monday through Friday, with possible overtime and emergency call-ins,
  • Will wear safety shoes, safety glasses, and other personal protective and safety equipment and work outside in inclement weather conditions.
  • Are you able to climb/work off ladders and scaffolding, in confined spaces, and at heights (roofs, antennas, etc.), lift/carry 50 lbs.
  • Will operate APL vehicles and industrial equipment and assist other trades as advised.
  • Requires valid state-of-residence driver's license in good standing.
  • Hold US Citizenship or permanent resident status, as required to access APL's facilities and networks, subject to applicable laws.

  • Have knowledge of DC and AC circuits, motors, motor controls, generators, distribution systems, and power monitoring systems;
  • Have the skills and knowledge normally associated with completion of a formal training curriculum and four years of experience at the journeyman level.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance. APL provides eligible staff with a comprehensive benefits package including retirement plans, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, flexible spending accounts, education assistance, and training and development.
