Undergraduate Sociology Program Chair/Contracted Faculty of Practice (CFP)
Position Overview: The Department of Social Sciences at Concordia University, St. Paul seeks a part-time, year-round leader to serve as Undergraduate Sociology Program Chair/Contracted Faculty of Practice (CFP). Reporting to the Department Chair, this semester-by-semester appointment oversees the undergraduate Sociology program, its faculty, and its students. Duties include instructor supervision; managing the curriculum, internship course, and general education Sociology course (onsite at Concordia Academy and online through CSP Global); representing and promoting the program; leading curricular improvements; advising student majors and, when applicable, the Sociology Club; and participating in university events. The role may also include limited teaching, depending on interest and course availability.
Compensation: $1250 per credit
- 2 credits Fall Semester
- 2 credits Spring Semester
- 2 credits Summer Semester
Program Chair Responsibilities:
- Collaboratively lead the academic program(s), with input from colleagues, industry experts, instructional design experts, and administration, to ensure program alignment with career/discipline needs, accreditation, market forces, and student success.
- Onboard, lead, supervise, and develop assigned faculty in their work to fulfill their teaching responsibilities.
- Monitor provided student and faculty success data to provide appropriate interventions and support services.
- Collaborating with leadership, foster industry connections to enhance program relevancy and student industry engagement opportunities.
- Manage and allocate the program's budget effectively and efficiently.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Follow the university and academic unit's policies and procedures.
Course Instruction Responsibilities:
- Facilitate quality student learning through teaching assigned courses
- Increase student course engagement by providing a positive and regular presence within the course (at least four days per week for online courses) by engaging students through course activities and ongoing availability to provide student support.
- Provide substantive and timely feedback on course assessments, following academic unit and university guidelines, within the Learning Management System, typically within seven business days of the assessments' due dates.
- Respond to student inquiries typically within 24 hours during business days unless otherwise specified at the college level (48 hours on weekends, with closer monitoring if assignments are due during the weekend or on Monday).
- Work collaboratively in a supportive academic environment, partnering with academic advising, career development, and the academic team to ensure each student has the resources they need to succeed.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience:
- Education Required: Master's degree (or higher) in Sociology.
- Education Preferred: A terminal degree in Sociology is preferred.
- Experience Preferred: Demonstrated teaching in Sociology as well as administrative experience within higher education, program development, and instructor supervision are strongly preferred.
