Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

Position: Senior Accountant (Hybrid Remote)



The Senior Accountant is responsible for the preparation and review of all budgets, actuals, forecast reporting and processes. The senior accountant assists in the preparation of analysis for current or proposed operations and provides timely, concise recommendations to improve results and performance.



Location: New York, NY 10020



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • CPA/MBA a plus.
  • Three years relevant billing, budget, and financial analysis experience.
  • Knowledge and ability to use an in-house PC-based accounting system in a network environment, including ability to create, run, and verify reports.
  • Advanced expertise with Excel/Word is essential.
  • This position requires the ability to successfully manage multiple projects under deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical and conceptual skills required.


Senior Accountant Principal Responsibilities:



  1. Prepare reports analyzing financial results and trends which impact the bottom line and propose action for operational improvements based on sound analytical procedures.
  2. Prepare program budgets, budget to actual variances, projections, and explanations.
  3. Prepare journal entries and allocation adjustments to ensure accurate reporting and balanced budgets.
  4. Review and approve program purchases.
  5. Prepare and track monthly accruals.
  6. Prepare and recommend salary, fringe and OTPS allocations to assist in achieving programmatic and fiscal objectives.
  7. Have a full understanding of all relevant funder requirements, guidelines, cost manuals and policies to ensure accounting, auditing and funder standards are followed and requests resolved timely.
  8. Prepare internal and external budgets and budget modifications based on variance analysis.
  9. Assist in the preparation of the CFR and other external reporting support schedules.
